In Her Own Words’ newest release “Everything I Used To Trust” is a great LP if you are looking for something new to add to your pop-punk/hardcore collection.

With sounds of A Day To Remember and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! this band has the potential to really bring something new to the table. The only problem with this LP is that with all this potential, it is clear that this band has room to grow. With their closing song “Continuity”, this potential is evident through their ability to take a different path than other pop-punk/hardcore bands do musically.

Their instrumentation is something that is more dynamic than most bands of this genre and should be expressed more often on this LP in order to differentiate themselves. Possibly the most important song on this LP is “Reverie”. This song wraps the album into one and if you are looking for a song to get you started into the LP, check it out. It shows their style of vocals and how they put a different spin on the traditional song structure in the pop-punk genre. Another notable song, “With or Without You” shows the hardcore side of the band. This song showcases their screaming as well as a bit more technical instrumentation. Although this aspect of the genre is not something new, the style of In Her Own Words has potential to be something that can really be different than other bands.

Regardless of the overall satisfaction, this LP has a very frustrating aspect to it. This band comes very close to being a band that can really stand out in the crowd, the only problem being that it falls short at this moment. The band has a lot of time to grow, this being only their third release. If they can mix the intelligence of “Continuity” into their main songs, they can really have a powerful sound and possibly change the pop-punk genre. At the end of the day, this is still a great LP. It has the traditional feel of a pop-punk album, but with a more original twist. Check out “Everything I Used To Trust” and be sure to stay in touch with what’s to come next with the band because they have the potential to create a revolutionary sound in the future. In the meantime, jam out to their newest release and look out for a show near you!

Nintendo has a tendency to make classic games that generations of gamers come to love for years, and Earthbound is no exception. Originally released in 1995 on the SNES, it’s been re-released on the Wii U for $9.99.

Earthbound takes you on an epic journey where you fight your enemies in a classic and difficult RPG style, with an awesome and retro look and feel that puts a unique spin on the game. You play as the boy Ness, who uses kid-like weapons such as baseball bats and slingshots to strike down his foes throughout his quest. Throughout the game you get better weapons and items, and gain friends to aid you in battle. Though the look of the game is lighthearted, the combat is very unforgiving. You have your basic weapon attacks, but you also get special magic abilities and powers that can help you in a pinch.

Every enemy you face is unique, some being giant slugs and ants, while others being punks on pogo sticks and skateboards. Enemies that are much weaker than you automatically lose the battle when you attack them. Not having to waste time going through weak enemies is great, especially when returning to earlier areas in the game with low level enemies all over. Another cool part of battles in Earthbound is they aren’t triggered randomly like in other RPG’s, instead, you see the enemy on screen and can decide whether to fight or flee.

The health system in Earthbound is clever. Your health is displayed as a number wheel that scrolls down as you lose health. This means if an enemy gives you a fatal blow, you have time while the wheel spins down to try and heal yourself, this makes for intense and heart-pounding battles. Unfortunately, there are so many battles constantly throughout the game, it makes the gameplay very repetitive at times, making you want to quit out of frustration and boredom. The enemies respawn out of thin air off screen, making it difficult to even leave an area without dying. When you die, you appear at the last place you saved, and you lose half of the money you had on you at the time of death, which is a fair deal. Though you die many times throughout the game, the victory is massively satisfying. To top off the game, the soundtrack is beyond awesome. The classic SNES bleeps and bloops, mixed with bizarre and upbeat songs just makes you smile when you hear it, and makes you not want to stop listening.

Overall, Earthbound is just a great game and is very unique. Though the gameplay can get frustrating and repetitive, veteran gamers will have no problems falling in love all over again with this classic.

The mighty Underoath have come and gone. When they were active, they were regarded as a dominating force in the Christian metal/secular world. A lot of bands nowadays should be paying royalties to them. While originally starting off as a generic, preachy, (it would make For Today look tame) black metal band, the arrival of Spencer Chamberlain changed the band’s sound for the better.

I’ll admit it was a bit hard compiling their best songs, considering their extensive catalog. comment with any songs you’re surprised aren’t on the list.

10. When The Sun Sleeps (The Changing of Times - 2002)

The only album with Dallas Taylor on vocals that I can really handle. The video is actually good for being their first one ever.

9. Emergency Broadcast: The End Is Near (Lost in the Sound of Separation - 2008)

Heavy, but slower than their normal songs. Fun fact, Aaron double tracked this on the drums with Daniel Davison who would later end up replacing him

8. In Regards to Myself (Define the Great Line - 2008)

When you hear cinema projector and the opening riff of this song, you know you’re about to hear something great.

7. Unsound (Anthology 1999-2013)

Before they broke up; Underoath went back in the studio and recorded two new songs for their greatest hits CD. Spencer sounds a lot like Anthony Green in this song (albeit a bit lower pitched) particularly Circa Surive’s song Through The Desert Alone.

6. The Only Survivor Was Miraculously Unharmed (Lost in the Sound of Separation - 2008)

Starts off intense and doesn’t stop.

5. A Boy Brushed Red… Living in Black and White (They’re Only Chasing Safety - 2004)

The 2nd track on their debut with Spencer Chamberlain. He would later change his vocal style on the next record.

4. Paper Lung (Ø (disambiguation - 2010)

One of the few songs besides “Too Bright to See, Too Loud to Hear” that features singing for a majority of the song. Only this time, Spencer is doing double duty after the departure of Aaron.

3. Desperate Times, Desperate Measures (Lost in the Sound of Separation - 2008)

This a great song to see live (on Youtube now anyway).

2. Writing On The Walls (Define the Great Line - 2008)

DTGL would be a turning point for the band; the record debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200

1. It’s Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door (They’re Only Chasing Safety - 2004)

The song that got me hooked on Underoath. It sounded different from anything I heard at the time.
