Season of Mist signs KOLDBRANN

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of True Norwegian black metal act KOLDBRANN!

The Norwegian horde’s third full length album will hit stores through Season of Mist’s Underground Division in early 2013. KOLDBRANN will debut “Totalt Sjelelig Bankerott”, a 7” single including a song from the forthcoming album (title pending) and an exclusive B side entitled “Kasjtjeijs Svøpe” on Nov. 16th. The single will also be available digitally.

KOLDBRANN’s first two albums “Nekrotisk Inkvisition” and “Moribund” will be re-issued via Season of Mist, along with 2008’s “Stigma: På kant med livet” EP.

War From A Harlots Mouth premier new song

A LIFE ONCE LOST Announces New Tour Dates with REVOCATION and KEN MODE

A LIFE ONCE LOST will head out on a full U.S. tour with headliners Revocation this October and November in support of their new album, Ecstatic Trance, due out in North America on its new release date of October 22^nd and internationally on November 16^th via Season of Mist. Support will come from KEN mode. The tour kicks off on October 18^th in Trenton, NJ and comes to a close in Allston, MA on November 13^th.

Pre-orders for Ecstatic Trance are available now! The album is available for pre-order in four different versions: jewel case, CD Digipack (EU version), LP, translucent orange LP, and grey mixed LP. Last week, A LIFE ONCE LOST unveiled another new track from their upcoming full length album, Ecstatic Trance! The track, entitled ‘Something Awful’, is the first track on the album and is available for streaming at Revolver Magazine’s website, Revolvermag.com. ‘Something Awful’ is the second new A LIFE ONCE LOST track released in the past month— the first being ‘Madness is God’ which has a new lyric video to go along with it. Classic Bands and Why We Love Them: Linkin Park

This week’s “Classic Bands and Why We Love Them” contribution is from Matt Marshall of Palisades.

Why I love them: I was 9 old when I first heard of  Linkin Park.  I’m now 22 and I can honestly say no band has ever impacted me the same.  They we’re able to take elements of Rock, Rap, hardcore and djing/electronics to make a complete new sound. No band in my opinion was able to make a more unique sound since. What makes Linkin Park a true classic is their ground breaking music. Their debut album “Hybrid Theory” was released over 10 years ago and I can honestly say it never gets old.  Without Linkin Park I wouldn’t be doing music and I can only hope one day my band can impact someone the same way Linkin Park has impacted me

Review: Alta - Places

Discovering a new band is always a pleasent experience. Of course with the obvious of hearing new music, but also with hearing some new band’s story, as portrayed with their music. Recently I stumbled upon the band Alta, a rather unique band from Milwaukee, WI. They’re newcomers however, with an EP entitled This Space Will Accommodate Canvas, and also being featured on a compilation CD and a split tape with the band Arizon Wilder. Alta have just recently come out with a new album this year, titled Places. The question is, is it able to stand on its own two feet amongst an ever saturated era of music?

To describe their music, I wouldn’t in any way shape or form place them under any single one genre. Maybe experimental post-hardcore with post-rock and math influences, possibly even screamo. These influences are definitely reflected in their music, giving me personally an At The Drive In vibe. Their music consists of catchy yet complex sounding riffs, which can already be heard on their first track Winter/Mute.  Accompanying this are an excellent sounding bass, filling drum patterns and an emotionally raw and powerful vocalist. Their vocalist is something to focus on on this album. Incorporating a method of yell screaming, and just emitting raw emotion in the words he sings, or rather yells. Their lyrics also carry this same emotional feeling. 

The post-rock influences are a strong driving force on this album, most present on tracks such as Merry New Year, and +-, but still giving the rest of their songs a unique taste, with songs such as Dakota, Winter/Mute, and Sorting Rooms giving off an energetic sound, something that would seemingly be nice to mosh out to at live shows. My personal favorite from the track being Dakota.

The downsides to the record are minor, mainly the issue that the vocalist doesn’t really change his singing style at all, and each track takes on the illusion of sounding a bit too similar, when they clearly don’t. However his style of singing is definitely not something that is heard in many bands at all, and that is a driving force to this album. Over this is a wonderful album, one that I greatly enjoyed and I recommend everyone give it a listen. Just remember, it never hurts discovering new bands and giving them the recognition they deserve.
