In 1950, The Saturday Evening Post published a short story by legendary science fiction writer Ray Bradbury called “The World The Children Made” which eventually came to be known as “The Veldt.”  Its futuristic storyline is the inspiration for the song “The Veldt” by electronic music producer deadmau5 featuring Chris James.  It pays homage to the recently deceased novelist in its music and lyrics, as well as its accompanying video, made available today by deadmau5 and Ultra MusicView the video here:  http://youtu.be/xvtNS6hbVy4

“A bouncing, four-on-the-floor electro-house ditty, the track describes a world in which technology has so consumed culture that the world outside has virtually vanished,” wrote Randall Roberts of the Los Angeles Times (6/6/12).  For the song’s animated video (the first visual from deadmau5 since 2009’s “Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff”), deadmau5 teamed with U.K. video production house Qudos Animations, producer Warren Green and director Dr. Manroop Takhar to depict “The Veldt” characters children Peter and Wendy amongst the lions in the virtual reality African jungle they eventually trap their parents in.

“The Veldt” appears on THE VELDT four-song EP along with remixes by Tommy Trash and Freeform Five, as well as “Failbait” featuring hip-hop icons Cypress Hill.  It is available now via Ultra Music at: http://smarturl.it/theveldtep

Electronic doom pop duo Death Rattle have made their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’ available to stream via soundcloud:

http://soundcloud.com/deathrattle/the-chain-cover

After playing The Chain live at a number of recent shows, the duo were asked to provide an extended version of the track for the Mr. Start catwalk show on June 16th, as part of London’s first ever mens fashion week; London Collections Men. After an overwhelming response from the international press in attendance, the duo decided to make The Chain available online. Editors from UK publications Esquire and Grazia were among the fans of Death Rattle’s version of the song and after the band was inundated with further requests for the track, it was decided to make a preview of it available to stream online indefinitely before its official release on the band’s debut EP later in the year.

Mr Start have featured the track in their video footage of the show here:

http://vimeo.com/44305899

The cover version follows two original singles from the band - ‘The Dig' (Nov 2011) and 'Do As You Please' (May 2012) - with both songs and their accompanying videos receiving praise from music bloggers worldwide:-

"Influences are comparable to some of the best in show; we’re talking Lykke Li meets Fever Ray" (Killing Moon)

“The hook is incredible, burrowing itself deep into your conscious with every tangible, unfaltering shovel fall. An amazing debut song” (Music Dissection)

“The pounding synth menace could be Depeche Mode, the throbbing rhythm and harsh metallic beat is much akin to NIN” (Midnite Vulture)

The band have confirmed the following upcoming festivals over summer 2012:

Swanfest (Ipswich UK) - 30th June
Brainchild (Reading UK) - 1st July
Via Ventosa (Eindhoven, NL) - 8th July
Tramlines (Sheffield, UK) - 20th July

Days after the premiere of their breathtaking new video for “Dead Man,” Ohio rockers WOLVES AT THE GATE are pushing forward with yet another new track - "Safeguards" - from their debut full-length, Captors, out July 3rd on Solid State Records.

With “Safeguards,” the band continues carving out a niche that is likely to eventually spring a waterfall of imitators - a refreshing take on a well trodded genre that has caused Solid State to dub WOLVES AT THE GATE (alongside label mates THE OVERSEER) as one half of “The New Breed” - the front runners in a new generation of post-metalcore heavy music.

The track premieres hot on the heels of their recently released video for ‘Dead Man’ - a visually captivating tale of redemption told through a son’s post-mortem discovery of his father’s buried past.

The follow-up to their touted 2011 EP We Are the OnesCaptors finds the band not only living up to but surpassing the huge potential recognized by critics and fans alike. No longer constrained by the limits of an EP, the members of WOLVES AT THE GATE were able to showcase the explosive growth of their songwriting, from luscious, melodic rock tracks to lip-splitting hardcore stomps.

Produced by Andreas Magnussen (OH, SLEEPER, HASTE THE DAY, etc), Captors is a blisteringly heavy full-length debut with the potential to appeal to every variety of rocker – from fans of metalcore to traditional metal to mainstream hard rock. It’s an album that  like those of some of the band’s influences (AS CITIES BURN, THRICE, FOO FIGHTERS, UNDER0ATH) –  avoids pigeonholes and easy labels. With the November 2011 release of We Are The Ones, the band wedged their way into a crowded heavy music scene. Now, with Captors, the band is kicking down the door and taking no prisoners.

The Smashing Pumpkins have released their seventh studio album Oceania.  Part of their 44-song work-in-progress Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, Oceania is “an album within an album” and was created by the band as an immerse album experience for listeners.  All 13 tracks premiered simultaneously to fans and critics alike the week before release, with no specific single chosen to herald the new album.

Oceania was recorded at singer/guitarist Billy Corgan’’s private studio in Chicago with his bandmates: guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist/vocalist Nicole Fiorentino. The album is streaming in full at SPOceania.com and from SmashingPumpkins.com, where fans can sign up for the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club for the latest news and updates.  Oceania is available now, in stores and online (iTunes / Amazon / SP.com).

The Boston, MA indie label, We Are Triumphant Records, have officially announced that they have signed the United Kingdom Pop Punk band, Neck Deep. We Are Triumphant will be releasing Neck Deep’s Debut EP in the forthcoming year.

Neck Deep is a hard hitting Pop Punk band straight out the UK, hailing from Wrexham, North Wales. The band writes songs about the struggle of growing up in a small narrow minded town, the friends that kept them sane and of course the girls that drove them insane. Currently recording their debut EP, the band has already caught the attention of the pop punk scene, and have no plans of slowing down. With honest lyrics, catchy riffs, a whole lot of heart and much more to come, they’re definitely a band to keep your eyes on.

Neck Deep has released two demo songs:

“I Couldn’t Wait To Leave 6 Months Ago” - http://youtu.be/4Icjq0K1ynw

“What Did You Expect” - http://youtu.be/18fHU5VMTzI

Hot on the heels of their second well-received track preview, post metalcore rockers WOLVES AT THE GATE are excited to release their new video for “Dead Man,” the first official single from their upcoming debut full-length, Captors - available in stores and online July 3rd from Solid State Records.

"It was quite difficult for us to come up with a concept and treatment for this video that effectively communicated the lyrical content without literally following every single lyric," says guitarist/vocalist Stephen Cobucci. "But the joint effort from us, [director] Nathan Lundquist and Jon Ringle really brought a beautiful visual depth that we could have never conceived on our own. I am so very pleased with the CGI elements in the video as they are a perfect fit for the concept of the song and video. When Nathan approached me about shooting our performance shots in front of a green screen, I was apprehensive because I didn’t want to look like local tv weather men, but he completely helped communicate a beautiful Gospel message though the video."

The video provides a blistering snapshot of what WATG has in store on Captors - a fusion of hard rock melody and post-hardcore heaviness whose raw, emotional power is matched in intensity only by the band’s earnest approach to songwriting. It’s a fresh take on “heavy” music - a fact not ignored by their label as WOLVES AT THE GATE are (alongside labelmates THE OVERSEER) one half of what Solid State is terming “The New Breed” - the front-runners in a new generation of post-metalcore heavy music.

"The story, in short, follows a boy who is broken over the death of his father," Cobucci continues. "As he goes through his dad’s memories he discovers a checkered past of violence, malice and hatred and is undoubtedly torn to pieces by the thought of his father not being the loving and Godly man he remembers. A photo of his father’s baptism reminds him of his fathers turn from wickedness and his embrace of a life serving and loving the Lord. Romans 5:6 ‘You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.’ It is the beautiful story of God’s redemption in the life of a man possessed by sin and wickedness. Our aim is to show that Jesus Christ paid for those very sins on the cross do that we no longer have to live under this sin. Colossians 1:13-14 ‘For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

It’s an album that  like those of some of the band’s influences (AS CITIES BURN, THRICE, FOO FIGHTERS, UNDER0ATH) -  avoids pigeonholes and easy labels.

Formed in 2008, WATG began turning heads almost immediately and it wasn’t long before they were touring with bands they had grown up listening to on their iPods, recording with producers whose work they appreciated and signing with a label   Solid State Records   they had long respected. With the November 2011 release of We Are The Ones, the band wedged their way into a crowded heavy music scene. Now, with Captors, the band is kicking down the door and taking no prisoners.

McAllen, TX indie rock duo Sick/Sea has signed with Autumn + Colour Records (Sleepy Turtles, Austin Archer).  The sibling members Audrey and Cameron Scott will be recording their new album in August, and then touring the southeast in September. Head over to their page and show them some love: http://autumnandcolour.com/sicksea.

Imagine a sequestered town at the southern brink of the Lone Star State whose townsfolk claim as much cultural heritage from the bordering country as they do from their own. A place that seems contradictory being such a small town in the largest of U.S. states. It is in this setting that the emerging band, Sick/Sea finds its roots. While their hometown might be small, the music from the Magic Valley is anything but little. The tight-knit music community found there is making waves that are flowing out past the edges of Texas, spilling into the south at large. Several critically acclaimed groups hail from the area and Sick/Sea is a part of the growing current.

Siblings Audrey and Cameron Scott joined together to create what might be called a ‘trend-breaking’ type of music, having fused the multi-genre sounds of their childhood into one splendid style featuring elements of Indie, Jazz, Rock and even a breath of Hardcore. Their unique songs are strung together by mellifluous, reverb-laden guitars whose dream-like tones could have easily been recorded in an echoing cave on a deserted island in that longed-for ocean from which the band’s name is derived. Cameron’s dynamically energetic drumming, combined with the succinct and jazz-like bass riffs, create a diverse and mature sound. Perhaps it is the vocals that give Sick/Sea that finishing touch which sets them apart from the rest. The lyrics are honest — every word intentional. The warm, articulate performance of Audrey Scott is easy to sing along with — a rarity when coupled with the caliber of wit present in each and every song this southern Texas band crafts together. Theirs are songs of life and love and the discernment gained through human relationship.

It is child-like adventure that brought Sick/Sea together, cherishing such works of literary fiction as Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Treasure Island.’ It is this same adventurous spirit that propels them forward as musicians, having completed successful tours, and plans in motion to move to the Texas music capital of Austin. Their course is set and the horizon towards which they sail looks ever brighter.
