For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to WOLVES? How long has the band been around?
How much time do you have? I’ve been playing in bands since I was 15. My first band was a hardcore/screamo band, I had to borrow my girlfriends jeans for that one…Marc had been writing and singing as a solo artist for a long time. Rocky had been producing and writing for other artists and wanted something to call his own. WOLVES has been around almost 2 years now. The chemistry of this band is electric and we are really looking forward to a long run together.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
WOLVES was the first and only name. Marc mentioned it and it stuck. We have a strong spirit of camaraderie within our 3-man “pack” and our best moments in the studio, on stage and in life is when we put our heads together. Teamwork is everything with the way wolves act in the wild.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We all write everything! We pride ourselves in having everyone’s opinion matter. Makes for an amazing working environment. Our song topics have a wide range from self-empowerment, love, loss, and just having a good time. We like to bring in emotions that we’re personally feeling at the time into our songwriting in hopes that someone will listen and be able to connect to that feeling.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We are constantly looking back on the great music that has shaped our time, but also have a sharp eye on what’s happening in the modern music landscape. I often call Marc up to see what he’s doing and he’ll say something like “Just watching this Rolling Stones documentary for the 3rd time bruh”. Rocky, in my opinion is the pop music master. He’s not embarrassed to know everything about The Backstreet Boys extended catalogue, or what Future is up to. I personally am listening to a lot of hip-hop at the moment, old and new. I’ve been digging deep into D’Angelo lately and Kendrick Lamar. We have a pretty eclectic taste in music that is essential for creating the music you hear in WOLVES.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
We’re all huge fans of bands like Coldplay, U2, Maroon 5 and Michael Jackson. They have stood the test of time by adapting their style over the years to consistently make great, relevant music, while staying true to their own unique sound. We aspire to have a career like that, and with these guys around me it seems like an attainable goal!
What do you do to prepare for a show?
SO. MANY. DRUGS. Just kidding, stay in school kids.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
There just aren’t words to describe the feeling we had when we heard our song “Animal” was on Sirius XM’s hits 1 playing around the world.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Love this question. Coldplay, U2, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, Queen, The Eagles, ACDC, Radiohead, Chili Peppers, Beach Boys, Muse, Foo Fighters, Journey, X Ambassadors, Van Halen (with David Lee Roth), Linkin Park…to name a few!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Follow us on the Intsa, Twitter and Facebook @thebandwolves. We’ve got some crazy new songs coming out soon and we’d love to hear what you think. Keep an eye out for our live shows as well, you don’t want to miss them, mainly because Marc takes off his shirt. Thanks!
