For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Double
Standards?
This is actually the first band we've ever been a part of! Where we are
from we were the only people in our area really playing music in a band so
we had no choice but to just form a band together despite our deep deep
undying hatred for each other
How long has the band been around?
We have been around for almost 2 years now writing music and gigging around
the Glasgow and Edinburgh area making a name for ourselves
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The name actually originated through a friend suggesting it randomly one
day through a Facebook group chat, we saw it and just immediately clicked
with it. We toyed with the idea of changing the name recently but we
decided just to stick with it due to how long we've been going under that
name
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your
songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Our main songwriters instrumental wise are Marc and Connor whereas lyric
wise the main songwriters are Connor and Ross. Right now our main song
writing themes tend to be the usual parties and girls. Hopefully one day
that changes but we'll see what happens. Our first EP stuck to those themes
but with the next ep due out at the end of this year we hope to expand and
touch on some different subjects!
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Neck Deep, Blink-182 and Seaway currently have the biggest impact on our
song writing. These are the bands we listen to the most as a group and it's
just the style of music we love playing due to the fun and energy it brings
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a
band?
Surprisingly not, we started this band because we all were friends that
played music and liked similar music. We realised it would be fun to play
and make music together and that's how the band came about, we originally
started off just covering some random songs knew (badly) then progressed
onto making our own music once we had a better grasp of how to play
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
Drink tonnes of Monster. An unhealthy amount of Monster. That is all.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Releasing our debut EP Rocket Turtle has been our biggest highlight as it
was a weight off our shoulders getting the first songs we ever wrote out
there. We really enjoyed the recording process, just getting into the
studio and piecing together the songs we had been working on for a while
was great fun
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and
why?
Would have to be early 2000's Warped Tour, any year of those would be
amazing. They seem like they were really fun and full of energy which is
exactly what we look for in our shows. Also we like and have been inspired
by a lot of bands that have played on warped tour so that would be a
massive bonus too of course
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and look our for our new single coming
out this July!
