For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Satellite Citi? How long has the band been around?
N/A
Satellite Citi started in 2015.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Satellite Citi comes from one of Anna's favorite songs, “Satellite Mind,” by the band Metric. We got the idea when we started thinking about a world where people communicate via satellite minds.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Both of us split the responsibility of songwriting equally, however Anna generally is the lyricist. Although we tend to write songs about personal experiences, we generally expand our topics from anything to the apocalypse to the repulsive greed of politicians.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Right now we're inspired by a variety of bands that span across several genres of music. We've been listening to a ton of Royal Blood and Death from Above 1979. Both are pretty explosive sounding duos with fantastic song-writing. We're also big fans of London Grammar, Highly Suspect, Muse, Nothing More… all these bands definitely played a big role in influencing our songwriting for our upcoming record.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Shaunt: Probably Muse at the Greek Theater around when Black Holes & Revelations came out. I was in awe on how sonically massive the band sounded only with three members, and that's about the same time I realized I need to give music a proper shot.
Anna: I went through a series of instruments until I discovered my love for the drums. I don't remember a band/artist that inspired me to start a band but as a drummer I felt the need to constantly play with musicians cause I got tired of drumming to my iPod. My drum teacher growing up, David Henderson, was also touring a ton and really inspiring as a kid.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
Shaunt: Drink a bunch of tea and do a little meditating.
Anna: Stretching, ginger, and a ton of tea.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Working with our two producers, Brad Wood and Yury Anisonyan, has been a humbling experience for us. They've shaped the music we listened to growing up and have acted as our mentors throughout the process of recording our album.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Muse, Ghost, Deftones... these bands are consistently bringing something new to the table and keeping the rock scene afloat.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We're currently in the studio with Producer, Brad Wood (Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins,Touché Amoré), finishing up the second half of our debut record "Negative Space". We're also excited to be shooting more music videos off our upcoming album, as we plan to release video content to accompany each track on our record.
