For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Paul Johnson and The About Last Nights? How long has the band been around?
We have all played in many bands through the years thats for sure. This band is the most important band we have ever been a part of.
What is the origin of that name and have you changed the band name before?
Yes, we were Paul Johnson Band at one point, but after writing a bunch of band names down that we hoped could be as cool as Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers “Paul Johnson and The About Last Nights” stuck.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I’m the songwriter, I craft all of our songs from start to finish. Tuk Smith our producer on our new EP due out May 1, 2017 “Give up the Ghost” played a big roll in having Zack and Myself refine what we do, and perform at our best. The main themes on “ghost” are adolescence, but finding a sense of self through maturity, and life lessons. Themes do change with time, but my upbringing is always a central focus.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We love 70’s rock, and even some new wave. The Cars, Tom Petty, Springsteen are all huge influences, but we also love Punk rock, and it shows in our sound.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Nirvana was the reason I started playing guitar, and formed a band. They changed everything for me.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect...
We have a yoga/stretch routine we do before our set.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band's career so far?
Working with Tuk Smith from the Biters, and dan Dixon of PLS PLS was the most creative time spent in a studio.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Well of course Biters, but I would love to go out with Green day being I had their poster on my wall when I was 13. Tom Petty or the stones all would be amazing.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We want to thank everyone involved in this band, and the hard work put in. It is our passion, and we hope to blaze a trail.
