Unsigned Spotlight: Culture Wars

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Alex Dugan - vocals, electronics

Mic Vredenburgh - guitar, electronics

David Grayson - drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Culture Wars? How long has the band been around?

We launched the band in April, the last year before that was all writing and developing this new band.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name really wasn’t all that premeditated, but once it was pitched, it just made sense. Our music is mostly alternative rock, but there’s a lot of blending of rap/hip-hop and electronic blended in, so at least musically it applies to our style.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Mic and I will typically write the bare bones of the songs and then we write everything else in the studio with our producer Robert Sewell. The songs aren’t really about any one theme in particular, we all have different moods day to day and just roll with it.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

It ranges so heavily between all of us that it’s honestly really hard to nail down. However, my playlist for this week is roughly Travis Scott, Nine Inch Nails, Arctic Monkeys, Kanye, Gorillaz and Lil Uzi Vert.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

New Order at Day for Night Festival. Mic and I were at that together and I still consider it the turning point in this band’s trajectory musically.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Yes, flexing. I think that’s all we do is flex until they tell us to go on stage. Good example.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Well, it’s been like 3 months so I would guess putting out our first single, second would be the EP when it drops in 2 weeks.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

U2, Depeche Mode, Kings of Leon... anything with a stadium.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yes. If you’re reading this, stream us on Spotify. Our lives depend on it.
