Show Review: Skrillex (Columbia, SC)

First off, I just wanna say that the Township Auditorium is a very nice venue. It reminds me a lot of The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA. This was my first dubstep show. There was plenty of annoying white girls and loud dude bro's but I was there for the music more than the crowd.

I missed the opener, Vindata by a few minutes but what I caught from their set sounded really good. Be sure to check out their Soundcloud

GTA (no, not Grand Theft Auto) were up next. "Thirty push-ups and a shot of tequila each: that’s all the preparation Julio Mejia and Matt Toth needed to throw down their killer set." Per their Beatport profile and totally on point.

Branchez transitioned his way on stage afterwards and really got the crowd moving. I wasn't familiar with him or the other openers but they put on a great show.

I was disappointed Skrillex didn't have his spaceship on this tour after watching the documentary about it. The lights dimmed, and the familiar intro of "My Name is Skrillex" started building up before Skrillex came out to drop the bass. My favorite highlights from the show included him sampling the Lion King theme and Stars Wars theme, respectively in different songs. He ended the night with a slowed down rendition of Benny Benassi's Cinema before getting the crowded amped up one last time with Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites.
