Movements are a band from Orange County, California. The band released its EP "Outgrown Things" on March 16th, 2017 which contains fan favorites such as "Nineteen and Kept" Movements are an up and coming band who have toured with acts such as Being As An Ocean, Pierce the Veil and Have Mercy. The group recently spent their summer playing on the Full Sail University stage on this summer's Vans Warped Tour. In mid-September the band announced the debut of their sophomore album "Feel Something" which would be released on October 20th, 2017.
While listening to "Feel Something" I noticed that Patrick Miranda puts his emotions and his vulnerability into this album. Patrick even says, “We want our listeners to hear our music and feel something deeper than the everyday run-of-the-mill emotions". The album opener is titled "Full Circle" which seems to be about a struggle someone is having, they are trying their hardest and yet things are not getting anywhere. One of the lyrics is "Without a struggle there can't be progress", which to me means that no one can become who they want to be, or get past whatever issues they are facing without a struggle.
Colourblind is the first single released off their new album and was released on September 27th, 2017 and has reached 80,610 listens on music streaming sites such as spotify and apple music. The track is a relationship song, according to Miranda. He states, "It’s a relationship song, I’m colorblind, and I use that as an analogy for love. After going through some bad breakups, I’d meet people and fail to connect on a deeper level. I’d lose interest and walk away. Even though these girls had so much to offer me, I couldn’t see it. No matter what, I couldn’t see these relationships through, and I didn’t know why.” The song speaks to the emotional matter of trying to be with someone and not being enough. The lyrics are catchy and heart-wrenching, pulling the listener into deep a vulnerable state of emotion.
Daylily is my favorite song on the album. This song is about Patrick's girlfriend and her struggle with mental illness. Patrick says "It’s about my current girlfriend we connect so deeply because she understands what I’m going through. She’s had severe anxiety, depression, and an eating disorder. Her therapist would call good days, ‘Pink cloud days.’ No matter how many bad days you have, you will have more ‘Pink cloud days.'' This song really speaks to me and seems the most tangible. The track does have a softer sound to it, but the lyrics "I think its time you had another reason to stay for awhile" really resonates with me. I think we can all agree that we have had our good days and our bad days and sometimes we just need someone to take our hand and encourage us.
Deadly Dull is a track about a personal experience about his current girlfriend, Alexis' grandfather struggle with alzheimer's, Patrick Miranda says, “When his wife died, he was distraught, screaming, and crying. Twenty minutes later, he didn’t know she died. He keeps asking to see her. I wanted to tell that story". The lyrics "Whats it like to be erased every time you fall asleep? Waking up as clean slate without a sense of reality." really strike me. I can feel Miranda's emotion in these words. I can see that this was not an easy track to produce, but I can feel the genuine pain the lyrics.
Movements does not disappoint with their sophomore album. Feel Something is an album filled with emotion, passion and vulnerability. Fans of Movement's EP "Outgrown Things" are sure to enjoy the masterpiece that Feel Something is.
