Many bands that kick-started our love and passion for music early are still thriving and prospering as bands today. With some of these bands having been around for over a decade now, they have to find new ways to stay fresh and mature their sound over time. Some bands have done it well enough to get by, but some bands have taken their maturation to the next level and have become even more irresistible than they were in our youth. Below are five bands that have blossomed into absolute power houses over the course of their careers.
1. The Maine:
We loved The Maine, c'mon no one can deny how catchy Can't Stop, Won't Stop was as a whole. The highlight of my Warped Tour 2009 was seeing them for the first time and thinking how lucky the girl he wrote those songs about was. Now, Lovely Little Lonely was just released and it's taking the world by storm and with good reason. The Maine has transcended into a more pop-rock vibe and at times even pull off a The 1975 vibe. They've turned into something I can see playing on radios everywhere and I love it.
2. Bring Me The Horizon:
Bring Me The Horizon by far have the largest growth and maturation out of any band on this list. Back in the day we loved them because we were angsty and it drove our parents nuts to listen to their chaotic metal vocals; but now we love them for their clean vocals and catchy choruses. They have cleaned up their act (literally) but still maintain the grit that was part of the Bring Me The Horizon we used to love.
3. All Time Low:
So Wrong, It's Right was an absolute game-changer for me growing up, as it was for like every other 13-14 year old then. All Time Low was fun and carefree and with their latest single "Dirty Laundry" you can see how much they've grown from their "Dear Maria" days. The single is a bit more mellow than the All Time Low we have known, but it showcases the beauty in Gaskarth's voice and features a more ambient sound.
4. Senses Fail:
Oh the angst. Senses Fail featured a whole lot of clean catchy vocals and lyrics that everyone could relate to (again, hello teenage angst.) But now, Senses Fail has taken a bit of a 180 on you. They're flipping the hardcore game with their release Pull The Thorns From Your Heart. This album hits heavy and although it's nothing like Still Searching it's still SO good.
5. Mayday Parade:
Mayday Parade's A Lesson In Romantics is an album most 20 something's in the scene know. It was a staple in high school and how could it not be with catchy choruses and upbeat numbers that you can't help but dance to. Mayday Parade's latest release Black Lines is a bit different than their more bubble-gum pop-rock first releases. This album shows a great deal of maturation and a bit of a dark edge that wasn't in their other releases.
