Imagine Oceania. Thats what The Smashing Pumpkins are asking their fans to do for the 13 songs on their new album Oceania, out June 19 via Marthas Music/EMI Label Services/Caroline Distribution. Longtime fans of the visual arts, including their groundbreaking music videos and memorable album covers/packaging, The Smashing Pumpkins want to inspire creativity and evoke ones personal vision for each song, simply based on the title.
Thats the idea behind their new social media endeavor, whereby fans can create their own imagery for any of the albums 13 songs, tag them with #SPoceania and share them with each other via Instagram, Pinterest, Deviantart, Facebook and Twitter. The Smashing Pumpkins will also share, like, repost and repin on the official Smashing Pumpkins social sites, while some images may end up on the official website.
Artists can utilize photos, designs, paintings and words to imagine their own vision of the songs on Oceania, including Quasar, Panopticon, The Celestials, Violet Rays, One Diamond, One Heart, Pinwheels, and Pale Horse” (full track listing below). For more information on the campaign, go to the official Imagine Oceania page at smashingpumpkins.com/oceania/imagine-oceania.
The Smashing Pumpkins also teamed up with photo specialty blog JPGMAG.com to create their first ever photography challenge series. Fans submit photos for each of the 13 song title challenges, and one photograph from each challenge will be chosen and compiled into a limited edition print-on-demand canvas poster signed by the group.

Oceania was recorded at singer/guitarist BILLY CORGANs private studio in Chicago with his bandmates: guitarist JEFF SCHROEDER, drummer MIKE BYRNE and bassist/vocalist NICOLE FIORENTINO. The powerful 13-song collection (see track listing below) was produced by Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud and mixed by David Bottrill. Marking THE SMASHING PUMPKINS 7th studio record, it is an album within an album, part of their 44-song work-in-progress TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE.
