The Story So Far performed at a sold out show at Scout Bar in Houston this past week, with support from Souvenirs, Terror, and Four Year Strong. Here's what we witnissed.
Of Mice & Men recently reissued their third studio album, Restoring Force: Full Circle, on February 24 via Rise Records. They're currently doing a world tour in support of the album
This weekend I had the privilege of getting all access at House Of Blues to shoot some of the most popular Houston rock bands. While I did spend quite a bit of time abusing the catering, I also got to meet up and take some photos of all the band's that played that night. In fact, I followed from the time they loaded in to the time they left and got some interesting quotes from them which I'll include in this review.
Yesterday rounded off the last of the Bad Ass Weekend festivities this year and really brought the beginning of the punk/metal/grindcore calender in Houston for this year. This event in it's third year, was brought to us by Jaron Sayers and JC Newton and boy did it go off with a bang! With some of the headliners including the likes of Napalm Death, Who Killed Spikey Jacket?, and Goverment Issue this line-up was pretty much garenteed to sell out their respective venues.
Twas a cold night in February when Excision came to The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA.
This last Saturday at Fitzgeralds in Houston, some hefty punk acts came to get people slamming. Headlining was Austin, Texas based band Lower Class Brats which brought a snappy street punk sound to the mix and provided that signiture Austin punk rock n' roll sound. The Brats were being supported by fellow Austin natives, The Applicators. This all female proto-punk band tore through a mid-paced Runaways style set did not disappoint! Local Anarcho and Post Punk outfit, Gast set the tone for the evening putting on an intense and passion filled as well as reverb heavy set that would make Discharge and Joy Division fans come together. My persona favorite Houston natives, Some Nerve also put on a finger smoldering metallic influenced punk rock masterpiece. Although I come from a place of bias being that their self-titled record is one of my favorite of all time, I think they were the highlight of the show. If you have a chance, catch Lower Class Brats when the tour comes near you! Full gallery available on Flickr.
The Acacia Strain were playing in town so I figured I'd make my way to New Brookland Tavern for the show. It was my first time at the venue even Ive lived here since May. The local metal scene here is way better than Atlanta, as far as friends showing up to support the bands.
I had never been to Eddie's Attic before going to see Trevor Hall, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. People who had been there before told me it would be small, but I never expected just how small it would be. Trevor's show ended up selling out, and I really enjoyed the venue more than I originally thought I would. It was small to the point where it was intimate, but not over-crowded. It was like no matter where you stood in the room, you were close to the stage and could see the performer.
Charlotte has a great setup for their music venues. I drove up there from Columbia, SC for the Parks and Devastation tour featuring A Day to Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, Motionless in White, and Chiodos. he venue itself, Uptown Amphitheater, is adjacent to The Fillmore, which is used a green room when shows are at the amphitheater.
It was a relatively cool Friday afternoon, especially for Atlanta in the middle of September. It was around 6:00 by the time I got to Piedmont Park. I wasn't too concerned about seeing anyone on the lineup for Friday because the main reason I purchased a ticket to Music Midtown was because of Lana Del Rey.
