In an interview with AP.net; Mark Hoppus reveals the band are shopping for labels and plan on recording next year

I know a lot of fans are going to be curious about the next record. How far along are you on that whole process right now?

We’re just talking to labels now. We met with a bunch of labels while we were out on tour. We’re getting offers from labels right now. We’re figuring out what the recording schedule is going to be and going from there.

I think the plan is to start recording sometime early next year, right?

Yeah, after the holidays I plan on flying out and getting into the studio with Tom and Travis and starting to hash out the next record. I’m excited.

Are you still planning on writing most of it when you’re all in the same physical location?

I hope so. I think that’s when we do our best work. When we did the Untitled album, we had some riffs and some parts here and there. Tom had some skeletons of songs, I had some skeletons of songs, but basically we wrote all together and it was really a great creative process. I want to do more of that rather than everybody going into their own corner, working on stuff, and then coming back.

Dance Gavin Dance’s new record “Acceptance Speech” has proven itself to stand solid in place with the rest of this band’s discography.

Editor’s Note: Fixed the egregious error about Jonny Craig being the singer.

Although the album doesn’t do much to stand out from the band’s past work, this is the perfect collection to listen to if you are a new fan. “Acceptance Speech” captures the band’s high energy atmosphere and very high-pitched singing melodies that make up Dance Gavin Dance’s style that launched them to popularity. For old fans, this album doesn’t bring much of anything new to the table, but will be a satisfying listen to hear the most updated set of the band’s sound.

“Acceptance Speech” starts off fast and energetic, sets the tone by sporting the impressive vocal skill of Tilian Pearson. This album touches on a few other genres other than it’s own, featuring a rap segment and heavy electronic effects. In addition to these positive aspects of the album, the band represents their ability to create an album that captivates a post-hardcore sound. Each song more compelling than the next, Dance Gavin Dance delivers a fluid album that shows the mastery of their sound. From their nearly feminine sounding vocal support, to the metal-core fundamentals, this band has proven once again that they can represent their genre fully.

This newest release is a blessing and a curse. Although this album fits perfectly in line with the band’s direction, sound, and style, it fits a bit too well. Dance Gavin Dance seemed to play it safe with “Acceptance Speech” sticking very closely to the vibes of their earlier releases. To add on to the redundancy, many of the vocal techniques are repeated throughout the album. Towards the end of the album, many dynamics and vocal melodies start to sound very similar to those in the other songs. There is a line between fluidity and repitition and this album walks that line very closely at some points.

For first time listeners, this is a great album to represent the sound of Dance Gavin Dance. To long time followers, some might find “Acceptance Speech” as a disappointment. Although the band holds up to it’s sound, this album isn’t much of a refreshment for old fans to dive in to. But, with such selective cons, this overall fluidity and originality overpower the blandness of the album. Definitely a good choice if you are looking to spice up your play list!

Contracts are deceiving, the law is confusing and when legal issues arise most of us shy away from what is going down in the courtroom and simply wait for the final verdict. Well the ruling has been made, and A Day To Remember has released their fifth record, Common Courtesy, with permission from the judge.

Common Courtesy has been one of the most anticipated albums of 2013 and for various reasons. It has been three years since A Day To Remember has put out any new music with the exception of the song “Violence (Enough is Enough), which has been building up hype since December 2012. Most of all, the case with Victory Records has created a fair amount of complications for the band and owners of the label. Finally, Common Courtesy is here, and A Day To Remember is right back at it again. ADTR’s secret formula has always been the proper mixing of pop-punk with hardcore brutality, and the band has stuck with what has always worked for this fifth record.

The song style and creativity has been stepped up to match A Day To
Remember’s massiveness. Some may criticize this record for lacking musical evolution, and some will praise this record for sticking to the roots of the band’s style. I don’t know how long this style will last, but I believe fans will absolutely love this record. People will be jamming Common Courtesy for weeks, months, and even years to come.

Songs such as “Violence (Enough is Enough)” and “Life Lesson Learned The Hard Way” bring out Jeremy’s anger and brutal breakdowns all over. All songs have hints of influence from the bands previous albums “Homesick” and “What Separates Me From You”. “End Of Me” and “I’m Already Gone” slow down the record to a pleasant pace with a balance of acoustic guitars and huge build-ups. Overall, this album is fantastically balanced and is the truest representation of ADTR to date.

Fans have been expecting a lot from this record, and on every level A Day To Remember has delivered. Between constant touring, legal issues with Victory Records, and the difficulties with releasing this album, the members of A Day To Remember deserve all the praise for this record. Go pick up Common Courtesy on ADTR.com. You won’t regret it.
