For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Wyves? How long has the band been around?'
Nick has seen National success as a Solo Artist since the age of 10. With his impressive guitar skills, he landed appearances playing on stage with Aerosmith, Kid Rock, Cheap Trick, Cinderella, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Gary Hoey, and Peter Frampton. At the age of 20, he wrote and recorded an album with Sebastian Bach and toured on it opening for Guns N Roses. Corey, Evan and Brenden were all part of previous active & touring Arizona bands. Wyves came together in the Summer of 2015.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We were all part of bands before that were either just one person's name or person name and the blank blank. We knew we wanted to make something short, sexy and to the point. With a ton of research and racking our brains we came up with Wyves. It's short, it's got primarily sharp letters, it's androgynous in a Rock & Roll way and we just felt like it fit the music we were writing.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Corey is our primary lyric writer. Corey, Nick and Brenden will bring in riff ideas and we all tend to shape and mold them into our final structures. We like to embody the Rock & Roll spirit and write about wild chaos, sex and having a good time. Corey will also thread in a lot of personal struggles, opinions, and memories into his lyrics as well.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We've been on a big Iggy & the Stooges kick lately. We'll forever be inspired by 50's & 60's Rock & Roll as well as 70's greats like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, etc. We also keep our ears open to current Rock acts to let the now sound creep into our writing.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Growing up, we all tended to gravitate towards Rock & Roll and what it embodied. We can get down to everything from Jazz Fusion to Hip Hop. The power and attitude of Rock & Roll is what caught hold of us and still hasn't let go.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
Green Room hangs, stretches and talking about the set for last minute ideas. A little bit of Beer & hard liquor to get loose. We are all good buds so we just like to hang and joke around before we get up on stage and do our thing.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
We have opened for quite a few great acts but I'd have to say playing McDowell Mountain Music Festival in March of this year was the best so far. We got to play pretty much right before the headline act of the night (Gov't Mule) went on.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
The Stones so we could raid their wardrobe and party with them on their plane!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Rock & Roll is alive and well.
