When The World Sleeps is an alternative rock band based in Sweden.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band:
Denni Omanovic (singer), Albin Lyrbo (guitarist), Adrian Selmani (drums)
and Simon Elmlund (bass).
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to When The World Sleeps? How long has the band been around?:
Albin, Adrian and Simon has some previous experience playing in different rock and metal-bands. Denni was a singer/songwriter before WTWS came about.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The name came about when we were sitting in the studio, writing new songs. It was summer, and it was a burning heat outside, and we started to joke about how everybody was having fun outside and enjoying the weather while were sitting inside in a sterile, 4-wall studio (our
sanctuary) producing songs. So when the world was (metaphorically) sleeping, we were grinding in the studio.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Mainly Denni and Albin. Lyrically, it aims at internal, dark but also uplifting themes. When it comes to the production, so far, we are a rock band that blends electronic elements, sometimes very heavily. We basically aim at creating our take of an interesting and intriguing modern rock sound and we will strive to do so in the future as well.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
There are so many fantastic bands out there... We're influenced by, amongst others, some old school 30 Seconds to Mars, Bring Me The Horizons newer stuff, Don Broco is a new favorite. A cup of Muse inspiration is found in the guitar playing. We also listen to other cool bands like Lower Than Atlantis, Hands Like Houses, Slaves etc...
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
No, not really.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Maniacally checking our gear to see everything's working and is in tune. And eat. We eat a lot.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
So far - we've been listed as a top 25 act through one of Sweden’s biggest music competitions (P4 Nästa).
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and
why?
Any band that knows how to have a good time! If we can dream big, opening for BMTH would be so cool.
