VLACK is a rock band from Spain.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Studio, it´s all me (Marc Teichenné) except my little brother Joan (John in Catalan) on drums. Live, two fuck-ups from L´Arboç are added, on second guitar and bass.
For starters, what bands were you part of prior to VLACK? How long has the band been around?
My previous band was The Rippers (Rippers on the last album, “Fire Tractaät”). Drug addictions and ultimately suicide were the reasons of its demise. I started it in 1995 with my dear brother David Teichenné (1975-2014) and disbanded in 2013. He was too real for this world of bullshit, unfortunately.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
It came to me as a lightning strike when playing with letters after a few days up really high on speed, by 2013´s new year´s eve. Good times, really. I wish my body could still take that much.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Me. The song tòpics touch everything you can imagine and more.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Dunno. How could I? It´s really not up to me to say.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Many, but when 15, seeing Metallica in Barcelona at Monsters of Rock playing Last Caress from The Misfits changed my life forever. When back in Barcelona two weeks later, bought the just-out “Garage Days..” to find it there at the end. Recognized it from the first chord – a new Language had just hit me as lightning. I dived into it and started unveiling allpunk mysteries.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
A thick line of speed unti llast year. That won´t be possible anymore, so probably will have to switch to one of the above...
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Making such amazing and groundbreaking albums. All of them. Though probably, the first one stands above – this feeling of creating a whole new music Language, of charting into territories no one had ever gone before, but not as a thought or comparison. Just by the sheer emotion of it – one I hadn´t experienced before (and that, being one of the biggest Punk collectors in Europe, with more han 8000 Lp´s and 5000 7”s, which are following me to the grave.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
With The Rippers. Because David was the best bassist ever, the biggest and realest beast the punk rock world has ever seen. Just too real for this posers´shithole.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Vlack or False.
