Unsigned Spotlight: vide

Conveying a dexterous array of influence, spanning shoegaze, dark wave and post-punk, vide's sonic output takes you on an anguish-laden journey. The tortured ethereality of the tracks is dealt a jarring wake up by the potent punk-edged percussion, bringing resonance that will mesmerize as much as it terrifies.

please list your name.

Nobody

For starters, what bands – if any - were you a part of prior to vide?

Outside of vide, I have a post punk project called empty. I have a black n roll band All Monsters. Anonymous Hands is my 80s industrial Wax Trax era worship project. Lastly is death metal band, Some Dead Bodies.

What’s the origin of that name?

I come from a deep French Cajun background, and the word vide comes from the French translation for empty. I saw what became vide as the brother/sister project to empty. vide became my outlet to project more of my personal feelings.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

The swamp thing just comes from growing up in the stix of southern Louisiana and south east Texas, the scenery is creepy cool and I think provides a little world for me to be more primitive and scream at the things I don’t like. I don’t see the topics changing as they’ve been consistent since the start of this band.

What artists are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

That would be bands like Joy Division, Big Black, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and Darkthrone.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to get into music?

Nine Inch Nails would probably be the earliest thing I can recall. I grew up listening to first two albums and then when the Fragile hit, changed my life. Dax from acid bath definitely influential on my vocal style

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

Throw on my mask and turn my mic on? haha, nah honestly I just try to get in a zone pre set, couple beers, couple of joints, hopefully some good house tunes or good opener doing their thing.

What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

I’d have to say working with Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance) on our split EP we did. The fact that this guy is a legit MTV era rock star, who has no reason at all to be bothered with little unknown artist like me, to go out of his way to listen and reach out to me, it’s insane! He commented that he enjoyed my work and then we got to talking about doing a release together. His black metal project Bloodnun and vide put out a split EP called Beneath The Unholy.

If you could tour with any musical act, past or present, who would they be and why?

Joy Division, Nine inch nails and Acid bath. Joy Division is my favorite band of all time. NIN and Acid bath are my other tops who have just always been a major influence on all my work.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yeah, absolutely! Thank you for having me. Also shout out to my inner circle and team for the support to the vide band and to every new person and old checking us out. This started as free time project and has turned into a network of some of the best and coolest fans.

Find us on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Instagram etc. For anyone interested in my other projects, everything can be found at linktr.ee/emptyvide
