Dustin Galish - Has only played for Tree No Leaves
Calvin Cordy - Prayers For Rain
Adam Rice - Bathhouse Betty
Benji Katz - Indian Opinion
Tree No Leaves has been in existence since 2010
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The bands name was inspired by the concept of renewal and the shedding of all things unnecessary. Also the idea of changing with the seasons and how a tree with no leaves does not mean a dying tree but an adaptable one.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Mainly collaborative, past songs written by Dustin, latest ep “Sacred Natives” more composed by Calvin. Topics we cover are the unstoppable flow of time, entropy, death, life, love, sex, drugs, how we perceive these things and how they affect our perception. These topics are always relevant to the times and happening around us.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Kula Shaker, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Black Angels, Tool, Dopapod, Pink Floyd
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Ambient and Tape Loop recordings is what initially started the band. Brian Eno and Robert Fripp are pioneers of these songs and they were certainly inspiring to say the least. You wouldn’t guess that by the music we play currently but they definitely played a role in the start of the band.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Yoga, Meditation, aikido forearm stretches,
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
In many ways the highlight of the bands career is the last show that we’ve played. We are continuing to try and put on a better show and performance each time we play. There is no one show that stands out but rather the journey to get where we are now that is the highlight of the bands existence.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Simply Led Zeppelin. No band wrote better songs and also brought incredible improvisation skills to their live performances. There would be a lot to learn from touring with them.
Anything else you would like to add?
