Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
You are talking to Richie from The Stars Revolt.
Richie Ray - Vocals/Guitar
Skyler Jones - Guitar
Will Hunt - Bass
Brett Sharp - Drums
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Stars Revolt?
I was the frontman for the pop-punk band Shindig. Skyler played in Beyond Doubt. Will was in a band called Until Death Do Us Party. Brett and Skyler were in a band together called Better Than Salem.
How long has the band been around?
We just hit our one year mark back in April.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
This is the only name we've had. We liked the idea of revolution, so we knew we wanted that in there. We kind of threw ideas around until we came up with The Stars Revolt.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Writing the music is pretty much a band effort. Someone has an idea and we just build off of that. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I write the lyrics and this particular EP would be considered a "break up" record, even though it wasn't meant to be. Thematically we just kind of go with what comes out, but we have some cool ideas moving forward.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We are all over the place. I don't know if we're inspired by other bands though. I'm listening to a lot of Acceptance and the new Blink-182, Will is really into Miss Fortune and Escape The Fate, Skyler is listening to a lot of country and Brett is super into metalcore.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
For me, it was Garth Brooks and Nirvana. Skyler, it was Kiss. Nikki Sixx and Flea inspired Will. For Brett, it was Shindig and I See Stars.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We stretch out a little. I know I always do. I generally try to save my voice on show days as well.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Definitely this EP that we are putting out in May. We spent almost 5 months working on this thing. We are incredibly proud of what we created and we can't wait for people to hear it.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
I would say All Time Low or Fall But Boy. Who doesn't want to play for 20,000 people a night?
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Absolutely. Check out the video for Be Careful What You Wish For. Tell your friends. Pick up a copy of the new EP. Go to shows. Support your local music scene. Without local bands, there would be no national bands. Also, did I mention picking up our new EP? I highly recommend it.
