Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Zongli (vocal, composer)
Jiaju (pipa/ plucked instrument player)
Yang (erhu/ bowed instrument player)
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Either? How long has the band been around?
Before THE EITHER, we were all as independent musicians working on our own projects.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We haven't changed our band name. THE EITHER means we don't want to be defined just like everything else in this university is absolute.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Zongli is the songwriter and music producer of all the works. Most of the songs are a reflection on life and the social situation. we are trying to talk about humanism, truthfulness, and falsehood, relationships and so on. Something we will always think in our life as human beings.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
There is a lot of inspiration from a huge variety of artists. We love to learn and observe different music elements and aesthetic ways of thinking.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Yellow Magic Orchestra. YMO is a successful model of combined avant-garde ideas, music technology and music context between eastern and western at their age.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
Mostly like the other band, exercises, rehearsals, etc. We try to have the best preparation to any shows.
What's special about us is every time we hope to bring a fresh look to our fans, so another preparation before a show is fitting with fashion designers.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
For the recent three consecutive years, we’ve been invited to perform at New York fashion week. It’s such an honor to be considered for that opportunity!
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Pink Floyd - the connection with the meaning of their music.
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Temperament of electric and Asian background.
Nonotak - Their visuals are something that really inspires us and we would really like to incorporate that style into our own work.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
