For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Alpha Complex? How long has the band been around?
Kery, Matthew, and I have all been apart of the band Motograter. I was also a part of a band called Riven in 2012 before starting The Alpha Complex that same year. Kery filled in as a touring guitarist for the band Skinlab In 2017.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The Alpha Complex name came from turning a negative situation into positive inspiration. Our goal is to motivate listeners to be leaders in their own lives and stop following others.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Song writing in The Alpha Complex is a collaborative effort that the whole band has a part in. Sometimes one of the members will have a whole idea put together that we give slight tweaks to as a group and sometimes a song comes from a jam sesh at the studio. Of course, songs aren’t fully finished until they are ya know.
We can go into the studio with one idea and put it through the whole process and when we’re done you can still hear the beginning ideas but now there’s a much more polished piece of art. As far as topics go lyrical content comes from everyone involved. The most common denominator is toxic relationships but there’s nothing off limits so topics could easily change from song to song.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Bring Me The Horizon
Bad Omens
Spiritbox
Starset
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Billy Idol was what started it all for me. As soon as I heard Rebel Yell it was over.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Stretch, warm up, talk about any changes in the set or last minute ideas for the show. Personally, I don’t like going on stage on empty stomach so I try and find something to munch on real quick.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Up until recently I would’ve said DirtFest 2016 in Pontiac, MI but last year we were invited to play Welcome To Rockville 2021 in Daytona Beach, FL. It was absolutely amazing and we love working with the awesome people at Danny Wimmer Presents.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Linkin Park and 30 Seconds To Mars because they are both amazing bands and we’re huge influences on our bands direction when we started.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I know I can speak for all the guys when I say we appreciate everyone who is supporting us and we are so grateful for all of the opportunities that have been coming and continue to keep coming our way. Personally, I am blown away by the growth we have been seeing and can’t wait to see what’s next. Thank you all so so so much.
