Unsigned Spotlight: Teenage Mustache

Teenage Mustache is a punk trio from Portland, OR.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

 King Rotty - Guitar/Vocals

Gert B. Frobe - Bass

Punkrock Nate - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Teenage Mustache? How long has the band been around?

King Rotty - Beating Midgets, Christ Punchers, and RIOT AF

Gert B. Frobe - Five O and Reanimated

Punkrock Nate - Smelly Nolans, The Indignant, and Christ Can't Cum

We have been together for about a year.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name comes from a The Locust song called Teenage Mustache.  I have always loved that name and thought it would be great for a fuck off type punk rock band.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

King Rotty and Punkrock Nate.

We have a theme for our albums so far.  The first EP was centered around West Coast Culture specifically Portland, while Bloodbath & Beyond is a modern satanism album.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We dove really deep into satanic bands while writing Bloodbath & Beyond.  Bands like Behemoth and Belphagor, but also Ghost and Twin Temple.  We are all drawn to funny punk bands like The Dead Milkmen, Vandals, Screeching Weasel, and AFI (AFI cause they are hilarious now).

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

King Rotty - Definitely The Dead Milkmen, they are what got me into punk rock to see a band that was funny and not cheesy like Weird Al was amazing.

Gert B. Frobe - The Misfits

Punkrock Nate - Black Flag

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Since writing Bloodbath & Beyond we have to perform a blood ritual to properly bring the satanic doom!

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

We love playing with our bros in the Portland scene.  You have to check out Old Cross, GFL, Question Tuesday and the Fauxriginals.  Those bands are all amazing and are going off right now.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

It would be awesome to tour with The Dead Milkmen now that they are playing again.  Have you watched their IG videos?  They are amazing.  Also, we think that Tartar Control is hilarious and it would be fun to taint those Mormon boys with our satanic ways.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Ave Satanas!
