STEW are a Swedish power trio with heavy influences from the late 60’s and 70’s era.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Hi! Thanks for reaching out to us! My name is Nicklas Jansson and plays Guitar, Markus Åsland bass/vocals and Nicklas Dahlgren Drums.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
NJ: We wanted a short band name and we think Stew sums our vision of a good mix between our classic and modern sound, soulful yet heavy songs.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
NJ: We all do, I or Markus comes to our rehearsal space with a riff or an idea and from there we just jam until we got a structure. Markus writes all lyrics and they are pretty much about life, about how we are destroying each other and the earth. About love and loss. About things you see through your window, on television, social media and the things you experience in life.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
NJ: Mostly bands from the 60’s-70’s era, like Hendrix, Point Blank, Parish Hall, Rory Gallagher, Aretha Franklin and so on..
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
NJ: There are so many bands that inspire us, for me personally I were really into bands with great guitar players. Like the ones I listed above but much more.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
NJ: Just relaxing in the backstage room with a beer or two.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
NJ: imagine a tour with Cream and Rival Sons.. Holy! Cream because they are like the definition of a power trio together with others of course but I really love their sound and performance! Rival Sons are one of those new bands that just blew me away totally, I first heard their song ’pressure and time’ then I was hooked.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
NJ: Just thanks a bunch for the interview and make sure to check us out on our social media and take a listen at our recently released EP ’Hot’, that you can stream from almost every streaming service.
