For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Stain The Canvas? How long has the band been around?
Lorenzo, Riccardo, Luca and Francesco had their own pop punk/easycore band called Acid Cream since they were 14, so from 2012 to 2016. One day they decided to stop making that type of music and realized they needed a new singer. Despite Bryan never had a band before, he was the best choice for the band.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We thought a lot to the name of the band. Bryan was writing some lyrics for a song named "Stain The Canvas" and then we realized that it would fit perfectly. It was something "fresh" and a bit cryptic (people wouldn't understand on first glance what genre the band plays). This name wants also to recall the original sin and the dichotomy of the human being: as the white and pure canvas gets stained and becomes impure, so the human with its first sin. Goodness and malice, love and hate, faith and blasphemy: this is what we are.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Lorenzo currently writes all the songs and lyrics. He's deeply inspired by philosophy and literature, especially from Plato, Svevo, Nietzsche, Freud, Schopenhauer, Pirandello. The main themes are currently about soul and the human behavior, but we're sure we won't keep these topics as the main ones because we write what we feel in specific moments of our lives. Also, we don't like being repetitive.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We listen to a lot of different music, from deathcore to trap, from nu metal to indie pop. Everything we like gives us inspiration to write our own music.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Legends such as Nirvana, blink-182 and Linkin Park put the love for the music in our heart when we were kids.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We haven’t played a live show since forever because we started Stain The Canvas just in late 2017 and we're currently busy with rehearsals and songwriting. But years ago we used to make simple stretching exercises before the show.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
This is a little bit hard to answer since we just released our first single haha!
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Our dream tour would certainly be with The Word Alive, Attila, Bring Me The Horizon, Sworn In, Destrage, Bad Omens, Neck Deep, A Day To Remember and Oceans Ate Alaska. They're our favorite bands.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
