Unsigned Spotlight: Something Else

Something Else is an introspective, post/pop quartet, from Columbus, OH. The band has truly come into its own, creating a sound that is aggressive, emotional, and unapologetic.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Aidan Hall - Lead vocals, Guitar

Landen Gruszewski - Lead guitar

Colin McMillen - Bass

Alex Dooley - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Something Else? How long has the band been around?

The first band Dooley was in, was called “Friends”; which he played bass in. This is the first band the rest of us have been in.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We had a few pretty awful names in the beginning, when we were trying to figure out the “right one”. We chose the name Something Else from memories of riding in the car and asking to “listen to something else”; we wanted to be “that”.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I do (Aidan). The main theme is very introspective, admitting things to yourself that you normally wouldn't and hopefully being better for it. As far as theme change, I think it will remain introspective, but may get “poppier”.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Bands we grew up with like My Chemical Romance, The Strokes, Jimmy Eat World, etc. always inspire us when we are writing. Currently, The 1975, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and John Mayer have all been inspiring some new ideas for us.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Not necessarily, we all knew at a young age that we wanted to play music. The band started because it just made sense.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Typically a couple drinks and an ass slap.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

We just sold out our EP release show (1/4/19), that was amazing. The crowds energy was through the roof and we all just had fun.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Obvious answers are The Beatles, Michael Jackson, people we all grew up listening to and wanting to be. But current bands like The 1975, The Killers, and Catfish and the Bottlemen would all be amazing as well; their live shows are incredible.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We are getting ready to shoot a video for our new single (which we haven’t announced yet), so be on the lookout for that.
