With a combination of rhythmic guitar, catchy melodies, and expressive lyrics, shallow pools offer a unique sound that bridges the gap between alternative and pop rock.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Glynnis - vocals, bass
Ali - drums
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to shallow pools? How long has the band been around?
This is actually the only band any of us have been in! We’ve been playing music together for years but officially started shallow pools about a year ago!
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The name comes from a song that we all really like! We heard the lyric and thought it would sound really cool as a band name. We’ve changed our name a few times, but shallow pools definitely fits us the best!
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Jess generally comes up with a guitar demo first, and then we all collaborate from there on lyrics, melodies, etc. Mental health is definitely one of the main themes in our music. Some of our songs also deal with strained relationships and loss. We write about our own experiences so the topics might change over time based on what we’re going through, but mental health will probably be something we will continue to write about.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We listen to a ton of different bands! Some of our main inspirations right now are Pale Waves, Movements, and Paramore!
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
I (Jess) saw Paramore for the first time in a really small venue in Boston when I was 11. That was the concert that made me want to learn guitar and start a band! We all were also very inspired by Haim when we first started playing music together.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We like to practice a bunch of times before a show. We never practice the day of a show though because if we make any mistakes we’ll dwell on them. We usually listen to Little Mix right before we play or on the way to the venue to get excited.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Recording our debut EP has probably been the highlight so far! We’ve been working on these songs for the last year, so it was really exciting to see them all come together. We also really loved working with Chris at Reclaim Studios.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Probably Paramore, Pale Waves, or As It Is. We all really like their music and the messages they spread!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Our debut EP “Spring” is coming out on March 8th! In the meantime, you can check out our two singles “It’s A You Thing.” and “Sinking” on all music platforms. We’re really excited for everyone to hear the rest of the EP!
