Unsigned Spotlight: Red Line Tragedy

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Mark Richey-Vocals - Guitar
Jason Fubler -Guitar
Frank Hernandez -Bass, vocals
Karras Johnson - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (insert band/artist name here)? How long has the band been around?

Mark was in Cold Harbour/Chemical Red
Jason was in Live Alien Broadcast/Agents of the Sun/Pages & Poets
Frankie was in Agents of the Sun/Pages & Poets/The 5th
Karras was in Pages & Poets/The Smooths
The band has only been around 3 months believe it or not, everything happened so fast we can't believe it.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Mark and Karras were working on a studio project. Frankie and Jason had just ended another project. Mark and Jason had written some really great songs together in the past so phone calls were made and Red Line Tragedy was formed.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Mark had written a lot of the record BEFORE Frankie and I joined, but I brought in a few tunes to finish it up. We also used a couple Mark and I wrote about 2 years ago.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Bands that inspire my writing are Deftones, Breaking Ben, Finch, and Julianna Theory. Even some Beatles. I'm a HUGE fan of harmony/melody. I've also been listening to alot of Twenty One Pilots. Totally different sound but still very inspiring.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

When Slash threw his guitar off the cliff in the GnR video, I knew I had to do this.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

I like to tune my guitars and put them out to acclimate. I do a lot of pacing around. I stretch a little. I just try to relax and get in the SHOW zone.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Getting picked up by Indie label District Heights Records IMMEDIATELY. That was incredible considering we had never even played a show. Bruce, the label owner, signed us on the music alone. Also our first show we were invited by the biggest bands in Baltimore to play. It was an honor and we'd only been a band for a month.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

It would be Deftones/Quicksand/Orange 9mm/Red Line Tragedy

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I'm just really excited to see our kind of music gaining popularity again. I think the 90s sound is making a comeback.
