Unsigned Spotlight: Prospective

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Flavio Cacciari (Drums) Stefano Baldanza (Bass) Davide Ruggeri (Guitar) Luca Zini (Guitar/Vocals) Pietro Serratore (Vocals)

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Prospective? How long has the band been around?

Flavio played in a metalcore band called Shen for 2 years, Luca and Davide played in a pop rock band called Longshore Drift and Pietro played with Haven’s Titan (metalcore). The band formed in 2013, first as a solo project of our drummer Flavio and then 2 years later it became a full band.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name came in 2013 as a tiny mistake by Flavio and has never changed through the years. Initially he thought that Prospective meant erspectiv because the Italian word for it is very similar “Prospettiva” but we always loved the way it sounded.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Flavio and Luca are the main composers. Themes varies a lot, we talk about love, anger, life, relationships and society. Never thought about changing those themes because we are very comfortable and natural when talking about them.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We listen to a lot of stuff, from heavy to pop songs. We take the inspiration from everything we listen to and as we said before, we all played different genres over the years with our previous bands. You can hear those different influences in songs like Oumaima, from our album Beyond which is the most different one on that record and of course there are a few on the new one.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Some of us started playing in a band just for fun, but it soon became addictive and now we can’t stop doing it. We feel joy composing new music and playing in front of people.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

We do classic warm ups with our instruments and some body exercise to lose some muscles. Fun fact, we eat Grisby Lemon Cookies, we love them!

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

In few years we had the chance to play with lots of great bands, but last summer’s Dissonance Festival alongside Northlane, Oceans Ate Alaska, Napoleon and many more was definitely our biggest show to date. It was so good to meet people that travel the world playing music.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Meshuggah, Veil Of Maya, Periphery.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you so much for the quick talk. Listen to our new single ‘So Far Gone’ which is taken from our upcoming new album ‘Unreal’ that will be out March 9.
