PLNT9 is a three-piece rock band from Los Angeles, CA.
List all of your band members and their roles in the band.
We are a three piece composed of Lead singer/bassist Alex Archon, guitarist Milan Zivkovic and drummer Chuck McKissock.
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to PLNT9? How long has the band been around?
We’ve been a band for about a little over a year now. Before we formed, each of us were part of a project. Singer/bassist Alex Archon was in a band called “The Milgram Experiment”, our dummer Chuck was in an indie rock band “Pajama Day” and guitarist Milan was the bassist for “Cotton Ships”.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The origin of PLNT9 is pronounced “Planet 9”, which was our first band name. Then we switched to “Archon” for a few months because we thought it would be easier to search for. It didn’t sit well for a few months so we wanted to change it back to “Planet 9”, however without the vowels. Now it’s the only artist that pops up.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We collectively write the music as a band. However, each of us will come up with riffs while at home and we will work it out at practice and make it into a song if it suits our sound.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
The bands that have always inspired us were Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Mastodon, Opeth, Black Sabbath and Muse.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
The three of us were inspired to start picking a guitar by the time we were in elementary school. After each of our projects evaporated prior, we all wanted to start something special together.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect…
Usually we go through an acoustic rehearsal and tighten everything up.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
The biggest highlight for us so far has been recording and releasing four singles as well as shooting our first music video ever in 2018.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
A band that we would love to tour with some day would be either Mastodon, Primus or Queens of the Stone Age.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
As a band, we have a few goals that we want to reach by the end of 2019. We are aiming to put out a few music videos, our debut EP and book our first small DIY tour around SoCal/NorCal. We currently have our first music video coming out on March 22 as well as our fourth single to follow shortly after. It’s an exciting year for us and we are thankful to share this on the Kill the Music site.
