For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to PlainView? How long has the band been around?
Ryan: We were all in so many different bands. PlainView has been around since January 2020.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Ryan: The name PlainView was inspired by the movie “There Will Be Blood” and the protagonist Daniel Plainview. We had just finished recording our first single and were trying to figure out what to call ourselves. We threw out tons of names over drinks and eventually got side frustrated and started comparing our favorite movies. Chris and Aaron both mentioned the same movie and the rest is history.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Ryan: Since we formed during Covid we learned to write our songs remotely. Usually, it start with Aaron or Steven sending a rough demo just guitars and vocals. From there everyone adds their parts to the session and then we handle preproduction in the studio to make sure everything is sounding the way we want!
Our song content are always written intentionally undefined. We always try to write lyrics in a way that isn’t too specific so everyone can put their own meaning on to the lyrics. Some songs are there to help build the world we imagine our music belonging in. Other songs are about guilt, finding motivation, and diving deep into mental health.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Ryan: The Used, Bad Omens, From First To Last
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Steven: MCR’s live DVD of The Black Parade is Dead is what made me want to be in a band
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
Ryan: We almost always explore around the venue (mostly in search of food). When touring around, we value being able to take in the sights and sounds of new locations.
While at the show, we all tend to be on the neurotic side, so there is a lot of double-checking equipment.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Ryan: Our biggest highlight would be playing Blue Ridge Rock Festival in 2022. Between the stage, the sound, and the atmosphere, we're incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Chris: It would be incredible to tour with A Day To Remember. They, at least for me, are one of the biggest influences on me as a guitarist/musician. I honestly can't fathom the amount of laughs I guarantee would take place.
Ryan: LØLØ, Maggie Lindemann, Bad Omens
