Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Cole Caldwell is our singer, John Merwin is on guitar, Daniel Jackson on Drums, Rene Hernandez on Bass.
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Pick Up And Run? How long has the band been around?
Rene has played in various punk bands that toured nationally known as “DC Fallout” and “Duralix” to name a couple. Cole has played with a couple different cover bands and is most often found at the local bar singing karaoke. Dan grew up playing piano then moved to jazz/wind ensembles and marching bands as well as church bands then started making beats and DJing. This is Johns first serious band. We have been around for about 2 years.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We like the name “Pick Up And Run” because we have our hopes high that one day we will get called to play our music everywhere and we will have to just pick up and run and drop everything behind us to live out our passions.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change?
Cole comes up with the lyrics and as a band we write the music. The topic of the songs come from a collective of everyone's emotions and the lyrics mainly come from experiences that Cole, our singer, has either been through or can relate to. As we experience more as life goes on, whether it be through music or at home, of course the topics will change.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
I would say bands like Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings Of Leon, Nirvana, Royal Blood, Highly Suspect, Zeppelin, Ramones, Pearl Jam, and etc.....
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Every time I see another band play live, it inspires me in some way. But a band that inspired me immensely growing up to start a band was the punchy reggae trio known as “The Police”.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We might take our instruments out and fiddle around, going over newer parts in the songs. Cole might warm up his voice on the way to the show in his car.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Our biggest Highlight would probably be getting a chance to record our music at Capitol and Eastwest Studios in Hollywood and working with a very talented producer.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
I would say Royal Blood would be an amazing band to tour with because we have a ton of respectful for what they do on and off stage. It’s amazing how a power Duo like them can put out a full sound and make you think you’re hearing a full band. I can also sit back and listen to every song on their album and have it hit me the way it did the first time I ever listened to them.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Sure, we have been quite active writing songs, recording new music, and just putting out our new single “Can’t Trust Myself”. It is available on all internet music outlets. Not to mention our full E.P. Coming out March 6th, which will also be available everywhere.
