For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to One to Try? How long has the band been around?
Prior bands: Jive McFly, The Walk Off, Jack Newsome, and Adam Jensen. We started the band a year ago. Before that, we played in a bunch of awesome acts like Jive McFly, The Walk Off, Jack Newsome, and Adam Jensen. All of us coming from several different backgrounds in live music and production has created a great blend show production and creativity on stage. An important thing about playing together for so long before One to Try was even a band is that we've developed the kind of chemistry that has helped us move forward through a lot of mistakes together as a group.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
You get a lot of people telling you it’s not going to work out based on what they’ve seen in their lives. We just wanted to represent a positive idea that told you to overlook all the negativity. In one word we were able to sum it up to Try, but now we call ourselves One to Try.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Dylan is our main songwriter. A lot of the songs has to do with growing up.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
The Kooks, Bring Me The Horizon, Slayer and Katy Perry also the Beatles
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Back in 76’ we met down at the Mos Eisly Cantina, that house band was swingin’. If we are being real though we all met at different times in Boston and our paths collided in a great way. Now we're here!
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
Sun Salutations, vocal runs, harmonies, and "the Californians."
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Playing Collegefest at Fenway Park. Playing Collegefest for us was really cool because that whole year we had been playing small venues where couldn't tell if anyone actually cared, and Collegefest as we started playing our first song tons of people started coming toward the stage.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Past - The Clash or Nine Inch Nails because they seem to have been revolutionary in rock n' roll.
Present - Andrew Bird because he’s even cooler. His drummer loops acoustic drums live!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
