Unsigned Spotlight: Murkocet

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Richie Jano - Vocalist

Nate Garrett - Gutiarist

Cooper Osbron - Drummer

Jim Rawson - Bassist

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Murkocet? How long has the band been around?

Murkocet is the first band for Nate, Jim, and I whereas Cooper was the drummer for a band called Apparitions.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name of the band obviously incorporates the word Percocet--simply because I had never seen a word spelled that way before.  I ended up having to make a new Xbox Live account and decided that Murk was one of the slang words that everyone was using lately, and ended up rhyming pretty well with Perc.  That’s where the name ended up coming from. :)

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

The songs are all written equally amongst the members, and currently are typically about aggressive self empowerment.  There’s nothing religious or strange going on here, the topics are all directly related to growing as an individual or uniting as a group.  Over time the topics vary, however I don’t think we will wander very far from this.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Lamb of God, Slipknot, After the Burial, As I Lay Dying, etc.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

The previous question will definitely answer this one.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Cooper likes to stretch, Nate likes to get a couple beers going, Jim does some meditation, and I just hope that by showing up that that’s good enough. Hahaha.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Our biggest highlights all revolve around just watching the band grow, seeing more people become familiar with our music, more views, more listens, more purchases both musically and through merch, as well as our own ability to write music and exhibit our own growth as musicians.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I think that we can all agree touring with Lamb of God would be the most fun tour because we have always been large fans of their work and who they are.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We really hope that you guys enjoy our new EP “Epidemic” and our new music video for “Rule the Night”.  We really try to set the bar higher and higher with each release and we would really like any feedback you can give us, but most importantly if you enjoy our sound please continue to dig deeper into the band and share us with anyone else who you think would enjoy it also! Thank you everyone!
