For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Luke Maxim? How long has the band been around?
I have been involved in several different music projects/bands for the last 10yrs. I've been in rock bands, jazz bands, cover bands and also had some experience in theatre. My solo project (Luke Maxim) has been happening for almost 2 years.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
My name is Luke Maxim.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
On my first album, which was just recently released, I wrote about half of the material. The threaded theme on this one is definitely heartbreak and shattered romance. As life changes my songwriting changes so the topics will be more diverse the second time around. The next album I hope to write all the tunes and I've already gotten started.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
I have several influences. Currently, I've been listening to some new artists like Kiesza and Hozier. I'm really digging Brandon flowers' new material as well and drakes last mixtape. I enjoy artists that are doing something different and have quality songwriting to back it up.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
I don't think there was ever a defining moment but I certainly become inspired after watching any performance really. Notable performances include Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake and Pearl Jam.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
As a vocalist it's important to keep my voice healthy. I do a warm up and I find steaming before a show is very helpful. Other than that, I like to have my own space and get into my zone mentally before a show.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
The highlight is ever changing. First it was completing the album then it was my show to debut the album. Being able to play CMW is also a highlight.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
It would be sweet to tour with a seasoned performer like Barbara Streisand or Tony Bennett. I feel like they have a lot of wisdom to impart.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
No.
