Unsigned Spotlight: Lost In The City

Lost In The City plays a powerful form of Pop Rock that feels fresh and unique. They're comprised of the precise drum playing of Ryan Meador, the spacey guitar playing of Charles Koons, the driving and intricate basswork of Danny Davis, and the hooking vocals of Shane Radford.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Shane Radford-Vocals, Guitar, Primary Songwriter
Charles Koons-Lead Guitar, Back-Up Vocals
Ryan Meador-Drums, Back-Up Vocals
Danny Davis-Bass

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Lost In The City? How long has the band been around?

I (Shane) was a member of Colonial Drive prior to being a member of Lost In The City (our name). The rest of the band members have participated in various solo projects and non-serious bands.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

It's meant to represent the feeling of being overwhelmed. We're kids that didn't grow up in the city, so as we got older and had to spend more time in the city we all experienced that feeling of being overwhelmed and feeling "Lost In The City" so to speak.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I (Shane) have written most of the songs up to this point, but Danny and Charles are starting to contribute in a huge way.

The themes we tackle in our songs are really serious. From point of view depression stories, to the effects of suicide, to legitimate betrayal, bullying, slander, and all the way to wanderlust and back. These themes will change as grow older and experience more of the world.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

There's a laundry list of them, but the biggest influence on the song writing is Fall Out Boy, Amberlin, 30 Seconds to Mars, Panic! At the Disco. When it comes to instrumental inspiration we draw our respective inspirations from Jimmi Hendrix, Buddy Rich, Michael Jackson, Tom Waits, and a whole lot of other odd balls.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

We all just love playing music, so that love was our real inspiration.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We practice the day of for a little bit. We usually just hang out, maybe throw back a couple of beers, and let it rip. I (Shane) drink about a gallon and a half of water over the course of the day and try my best to just rest my voice.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Working on our debut album. It's been so fulfilling to see our ideas come to life right before our very eyes. We're also in the middle of booking our first tour and that is such an awesome experience.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Fall Out Boy, Modest Mouse, 30 Seconds to Mars, Foo Fighters, New Politics, Twenty One Pilots, Imagine Dragons

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We're a bunch of guys from the heart of the U.S. Being from Kansas City is an interesting combination of small town and city life, because everything is either super spaced out, or built right on top of each other. We love making music that has a message and we try our best to help anyone in need.
