Unsigned Spotlight: Letting Go

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Aric - Vocals, Sean - Drums, Zach - Bass, Andrew - Guitar

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Letting Go? How long has the band been around?

Letting Go was formed after Sean and Aric’s previous band split up and they met two local musicians Zach and Andrew, with the idea of keeping that band alive.  Finding our new sound. we decided to start fresh with Letting Go. Letting Go has been around for 5 years.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The band’s name stems from our transition from keeping the old band alive and starting new. There was alot of resentment and animosity during that time. Our drummer Sean listened to the Circa Survive album On Letting Go during that period and came up with the name.  We felt it was perfect for the situation we were in. Letting go of the anger we had.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Aric writes the skeleton and we all come together to create what we want in the song. They are about dealing with hardship and coping with it. I don't see our message changing anytime soon. We hope people can relate, and it can help them with what they’re going through.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We are a very diverse group of musicians.  Our inspirations range from the 80's hair metal scene, 2000's metal and the 2010 era of post hardcore with some modern influence.  Bands like Underoath, Norma Jean, Beartooth, Silverstein and Atreyu have always been an influence to us.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Growing up in New Hampshire, we had a great venue for national touring acts called Rocko’s.  Going to those shows seeing bands like Four Year Strong, Defeater and A Day to Remember inspired all of us. When that venue closed, we made it a mission of ours to take the torch and run with it to keep our community alive.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc…

We all stretch and do vocal exercises before every show. We change up our live set a lot and on occasion we’ll change instruments and vocal parts during songs, so we make sure we’re always prepared.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Our last headlining tour in January of 2018 was a huge milestone for us. We had done one northeast tour before, but this one brought us to places we’ve never seen and was a huge success. Our hometown show on that tour was hands down one of our best shows ever.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

We would love to tour with our influences such as Underoath, Silverstein, or Beartooth. But we can't forget our friends we've made on the road in Kaonashi, In Your Memory or our cross country friends in Lifelink. We are all about new friends and new opportunities.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Our new album Something To Me comes out August 24th. The album covers a lot of topics from depression to the loss of a loved one, and trying to cope in difficult situations. Preorder it at lettinggo.bigcartel.com
