Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I write my songs. I write about my life. Will the topics change? Time will tell I guess...It seems in life the more things change the more they stay the same...but it’s our outlook or attitude towards life that shifts.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Twenty-One Pilots., Tash Sultana...Chance the Rapper..SZA
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Warped Tour was the first festival I’ve ever been to. I would go as a teenager. The feeling of being surrounded by music all day and seeing bands live I had listened to for years was a sort of lightning moment for me. I was like “This is for me...I can do this...I’m gonna do this...I’m really gonna fucking do this.” From then on I played and wrote and begged my brothers to open for them at their gigs I’d be at downtown bars at 16 on a school night like “I’m a fucking rockstar” haha I thought I made it. I’d play concerts for my friends at parties there would always be a point where we’d get the guitar out and I’d take it and we’d gather around the keg like a camp fire and I’d freestyle some song about one of my friends or some topic they’d call out.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
I used to prepare for shows by drinking a bottle of crown. After losing my voice on a few tours I realized that bottle wasn’t doing me any favors. Now I do some weight training throw a mask on and make fun of my drummer. Laughing is a great vocal warm up.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Nirvan
