For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Housing? How long has the band been around?
P: Kelsey and I started out in a indie-folk cover band, which turned into a bad indie pop band, which eventually turned into Housing. The band in its current form has been around for just over a year.
C: I really didn’t play in anything big. Nothing that made it out of my basement.
Dylan: I played in a metal band called Amphora.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
P: The indie-folk band was called Postcards, the bad indie-pop band was called Fox & Foe (awful), and then came Housing. The name came when I was on a drive through northern Ontario, and I saw a business called "HouseCare" and it came from that.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
P: I write the lyrics and chord progressions, and then as a band we flesh them out. Most of the songs are illustrations of a certain way that I'm feeling, not so much an event or action. The way that I write changes based on how I'm feeling at the time.
C: I think the topics don’t really change but evolve, and become better songs in general. The upcoming Ep will definitely reflect that.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
P: Title Fight, Superheaven, Manchester Orchestra, Basement, Brand New.
C: Everyone Peter listed, though when it comes to playing style, I’d have to say Thundercat.
K: Margot and the Nuclear So and So's in the Buzzard era or Animal when they had emily on piano.
D: Blink 182, Amity Affliction, and Neck Deep.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
P: The indie-folk band was started after seeing Said the Whale in concert back in like 2011.
D: Travis Barker, Matt Mcguire, Luke Holland and Travis Orbin made me want to play drums.
C: Definitely My Bloody Valentine, and Nirvana for me.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
P: Eat a lot
D: Some sticking exercise, wrist stretches
K: At Least 2 cups of coffee
C: Coffee, and a lot of pacing.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
C: We all agree it is definitely signing to Mutant League Records. It is great to have someone like Nate Steinheimer work with us when we are so new to the scene, and lacking in experience.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
P: I would tour with Slowdive, because getting to see them every night would be amazing.
K: Manchester Orchestra
D: Blink 182; they are my biggest influence, and Lil B because he’s the Based God.
C: Title Fight or Basement. Two bands I would never get sick of hearing every night.
