Hollywood Nightmare is one of the heaviest bands, straight from the streets of Hollywood CA.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Kyle Davies: lead vocals
Scott Mik: Guitar
Luke Nightmare: Drums
Dex Van Rooyen: Bass
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Hollywood Nightmare? How long has the band been around?
The last band I was in, was a band I started in High school and it was called “In Death And Decay”. Definitely taught me a lot about how to be a musician, make music, play shows and handle the business side of music.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The band’s name was created before I joined but Scott and a past member Marcus made the name because we lived in Hollywood and it was the toughest, dirtiest, most ridiculous place to be and it was an absolute nightmare. From the people you’d meet and the things you see. But because of that it really strengthened who we are. and the name represents who we are and what we came from.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
When it comes to writing the songs we all pitch in, but Scott does a lot of the instrumentals and I do the lyrics and melody. But when it comes to the little things like sound effects, orchestra, etc. we all do an equal amount.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
For me as of right now, I’m really inspired by Bad Omens. The way they package themselves is top tier and Noah’s vocal range is something I really geek out over.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Before a show I do stretches, eat something light, maybe work out a couple hours before and obviously vocal warmups. But minutes before we start I make sure to go to each member and dab them up, like high five or something. For some reason it makes me feel like “ok now we’re all on the same page and it’s about to go down and we’re ready.” I can’t not do that before a show.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
I’m not sure what moment would be the “biggest” moment. But for me when we sell out the whiskey a go go that’s always like a “damn this is really happening and I’m on top of the world right now”. Also when we play with/ get to meet bands we grew up listening to, it’s a pretty powerful moment.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
I would really like to tour with Bad Omens, Bring Me The Horizon, and Ice Nine Kills with us as the headliner (of course) and we’d tape a Netflix special At “Red Rocks” in my home state Colorado and we’d get payed $100,000 each a show. Nothing to crazy.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I’d like to add that this interview is gonna cost ya $100,000. And we appreciate you taking the time to talk to us!
