Unsigned Spotlight: Hallows Die

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Ryan Bovaird- Guitars, Vocals, Keyboards

Pat Rogers – Guitars

Gabriel Bateman – Bass, Vocals

Dylan Gowan - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (insert band/artist name here)? How long has the band been around?

Ryan - A Couple Of Jazz bands and Classical Ensembles...nothing near as noisy as this. I played with Bolero (now Vesperia) at one point, but that was more during, not prior.

 Pat – Blacktop Theory

Gabe – Double Vision, As Daylight Burns, Corpse Brigade

 Dylan: Cardinal Street

The band originally formed somewhere early 2007, but this incarnation of it has been going since 2010.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

It’s always been Hallows Die. It stems from a tongue in cheek challenge to certain beliefs regarding death.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We all have a role in writing and arranging the songs. Depending on the song it could be primarily one or two people, or it could be one person for the whole song.

Our topics range depending on what the song evolves into. In the past we’ve tackled social, political and religious themes and challenged or explored them by making the song into its own themed story.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Between us all we have a pretty eclectic taste in music. Generally we find inspiration in anything that has a solid groove and catchy melodies.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Again, we like so many different styles, genres and players that it’s probably impossible to narrow it down to any specific one for each of us. Except for Pat, he lives and breathes Pantera.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Generally we have pretty boring warm up routines. I’d love to tell you that we snort cocaine and lift weights but in reality it comes down to a few hand stretches, practice, and listening to some music that gets your blood flowing.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

There have been so many to be honest. We’ve worked our asses off and have been fortunate enough to have shared the stage with a few of our metal heroes in addition to touring the country and making some lifelong road family. Each year seems to present bigger and better opportunities so it’s hard to narrow it down to a single highlight. We’re grateful for all the badass opportunities we get.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Ryan: My big one would probably be Guns N’ Roses circa the Use Your Illusion era. More so just to see if all the stories and rumours are actually true. Currently, I’d have to say Aborted. They are the be all of heavy music for me right now.

Pat: Past, the obvious pick (for me at least) would have to be Pantera. Because not only were they known to be a fun band to tour with, but I wouldn't be the player I am today if it weren't for Dime's influence. Present would have to be Revocation, simply because (in my opinion) they're one of the best bands in modern metal to date.

Gabe:
Wintersun, because it might mean the release of Time II

Dylan: Opeth and Gojira. Enough Said.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thanks for taking the time to publish and read our nonsense! Check out our new lyric video here and don’t forget to  Keep er loud.
