For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Gored by a Deer? How long has the band been around?
Our drummer Nate Lewin was the drummer of “Over the Effect” and our guitarist Dylan was in a number of projects including “Shadow of a Tyrant”. Corey was in a progressive band, “Vymana”. Our bassist Jalin was in a post hardcore band, “Heroic Bear” whom we played multiple shows with. Gored by a Deer has been mobile for 4 years but has been around for 5.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Our original guitarist Taylor “Tee” Gottsleig came up with it on a whim at a band practice prior to any of the current members involvement with the band. The band name has been the same since 2008.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We, as a band write all our songs collectively. The themes are determined by personal struggle. As the lyricist I definitely think they will change because I write about what I am currently going through and that, in itself, will inevitably change.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Oh Sleeper, Lamb Of God, Glass Cloud, The Acacia Strain
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Korn, Atreyu, Dream Theatre, MychildrenMybride, The Casualties
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Random stretches, Push ups, Excessive cigarette inhalation ect.
What’s the craziest thing that’s happened on stage during one of your shows?
Nevil doing a back flip and landing on his elbow and Jalin throwing his bass clear across the stage… Twice.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Touring with the NE based band “Lighthouses”,
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Pantera cause Pantera, Lamb of God cause Lamb of God. In all seriousness these two have been large inspirations to us as musicians and it would truly be an honor to tour with them.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Our full length album “Faith/Family/Failure” is coming out in the next few months. We’ll be playing regularly around the Atlanta area over the next few months.
