2 years after their debut EP release “Parts”, Salzburg, Austria-based power rockers Friday’s Spirit are back with a brand new single, titled “TSTT”, showcasing their punk and rock influences, and giving you a fine idea of what to expect from these guys later down the road in 2019
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Florian Stangassinger (lead vocals), David Heiß (bass, vocals), Philipp Humer (guitar), Gregor Eisl (drums)
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (insert band/artist name here)? How long has the band been around?
Actually, except for Phil, nobody has ever been part of another band, which seems to be pretty rare nowadays. We started the band way back in the day, but it wasn't until 2016 that we took things more seriously, starting with our EP "PARTS". Also, there were a lot of changes and replacements over time, but here we are.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
When we started being a band so to say, we usually rehearsed on Friday evenings, and that day kind of stuck with us. After some time, Lukas, our first and former bass player, came up with the name "Friday's Spirit" and we totally loved it. I think it was the easiest decision ever made... Good times, good times.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Concerning riffs and ideas, our songwriting is mostly done by Phil. After there is a major song structure, Flo then starts to write lyrics and tries to develop various vocal melodies. As for the topics, they pretty much changed over time, but one could say that we still address a major theme that runs through our songs.
So, in general, we love to write about social conflicts and the daily ups and downs in life, but we try to write the lyrics more openly. "TSTT", our newest single, might be the only exception, as it is centered around a guy who ran naked across the Czech-Polish border, high on a hallucinatory drug, believing he was a Siberian tiger.
Therefore, we can't really tell if the topics are going to change in the future. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst!
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Our inspiration comes from the musical elements of the different bands that we all listen to. But currently, one could say that The Story So Far, John Coffey, As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage inspire us the most.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Not really, or let's just say we can't remember.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Drinking. No all jokes aside, we don't have any specific rituals before playing a show.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Probably our newest single and music video "TSTT".
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Since every band member has a different taste, answering this question is quite difficult. But touring with bands like The Story So Far, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying or John Coffey would be a dream come true.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
