Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
For us, writing songs is a group effort. Very rarely, someone will present a song that’s almost finished for the band, but for the most part the guys will start working around a riff someone has presented. Once they have a solid verse or chorus, Ava will find somewhere private to start on lyrics and melody.
“The writing topics are constantly changing! Even since we started writing for this EP, inspiration for lyrics have evolved and changed in many ways. Sometimes the hardest part is deciphering what the song is telling you it should be about, but once you get it right you know immediately because it just works” Ava
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We all take inspiration from different musicians and genres which is what I think helps us create our own unique sound. Michael and Ben like harder rock such as Avenged Sevenfold, Iron Maiden, and Ghost. Brock is definitely more of a metal head and Lucas loves funk and R&B. Ava likes 60’s and 70’s rock like the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and Elton John.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
“We've all always been drawn to music from a young age. I started learning guitar by playing Taylor Swift songs when I was about in third grade. Then for my birthday that year, I got her “Fearless” tour on DVD and it blew my young mind. That’s when knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life”.Ava
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
“Vocal warmups are very important, a few years ago before I had a regiment, I would lose my voice by the end of every show, which was extremely unfortunate on days we had back-to-back shows. I went to a vocal coach and vocal therapist to come up with a routine that works for me. I always steam before a show and do about 20 minutes of vocal warmups. Straw therapy is also really important and helped strengthen my voice and is something i try to do on a daily basis. All you do is hum into a draw in a cup of water and it helps relieve tension on your vocal chords!
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
One of our favorite gigs was being able to play at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival just this past September! We were given the opportunity to play with and meet so many cool people and artists that inspire us! And being able to share our music with that many people and perform on a stage that size was something we’ll never forget!
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
As for past bands, we’d have to go with Van Halen, Rush, and Boston. As for current bands, there are so many good ones out there, but our top ones would be Halestorm, Metallica, Greta Van Fleet, Mammoth WVH, and Ghost. These bands all influence us in so many ways and it would be an honor to share the stage with them!
