Italian melodic tribe Fragments of Sorrow have carved a steady and loyal following with their thunderous display of modern metalcore, deftly blending heavy and melodic.
Please list all your band members and their roles in the band.
Dave: Hi Kill The Music! We are Dave - guitar and lead vocals, Freddie - lead guitar and backing vocals, Kevin - Bass and J drums.
For starters, what bass were you guys a part of prior to Fragments Of Sorrow? How long has the band been around?
Dave: We’ve all been in other projects before the Fragments. J and Kevin have a Pop-Punk past and they played in a band called Leftovers (J) and Ash Blossom (Kevin), Freddie played with an ironic Rock Band the Bingo Jones And The Disorder, inspired by the historical Italian band Skiantos. I have had a quite a few projects like a Metallica cover band, I played in a Hardcore Punk band and in a Post-Grunge project, but is from day one I carry on the idea of Fragments Of Sorrow, in this band we are all determined in my old projects I just met some suckers haha.
How long has the band been around?
Freddie: Dave and I started playing covers in a garage just to have fun in the 2016, we were studying at the same guitar academy. After a few years we had the need to express ourselves and in 2018 we started to do things seriously. The current formation is standing since the 2022.
What’s the origin of the name and have you charged the band’s name before?
Dave: The name comes from a backing track of my favorite video game, Kingdom Hearts, fully reincarnated the emotional spirit of the band. I proposed the name First Night In Birmingham nobody liked it so I decided to use the word Birmingham as my stage name.
Who writes your songs?
J: Freddie and Dave compose the songs entirely, I’m in charge of defining the drum line. Kevin is training on the recording side, so on the next tracks, he’ll have the opportunity to propose his ideas.
What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Freddie: We talk about the negative experiences and feelings in our lifetime through music. We want the listener to empathize with us to find a comparison.
Dave: Many songs speak of specific events that have happened to us. With the passing of time, we will live other experiences and we will surely need to talk also about those.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Dave: Mainly Bullet For My Valentine and Avenged Sevenfold.
Was there particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
J: All of us have had an artist who inspired us. For me it was Travis Barker, for Dave it was Matt Tuck, Freddie loves Synyster Gates and Kevin Matt Shadow.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercise, etc…
Kevin: We all have a warm up before the show. To charge us up we shout the initiation of the Chicago Bulls by Micheal Jordan in 90’ “What time is it? What time is it?! GAME TIME!!! GAME TIME!!!” It’s Dave’s idea even though he cheers Lakers haha.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Dave: Maybe the first live show, both the stage of Traffic in Rome and The Legend in Milan. But it’s actually a bunch of little things, like getting photos of people wearing our T-shirt on the other side of the world or getting compliments from great professionals.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Dave: Actually, with anyone who knows how to work hard, but if we had to choose I would say, Black Veil Brides, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Motionless In White.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Dave: Simply wish everyone to live the music with our same enthusiasm, and that I think I’ll go to drink a Milkshake, in Milan in August it’s very hot haha.
