For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Fero Lux? How long has the band been around?
Oh Jesus, we've all been in so many other bands, it's insane. I don't know which bands the other dudes will let me divulge, so I just won't. Haha! The last band I was a part of was called Old Friends. We were a "post-hardcore" band from south Florida. FERO LUX, however, has been a band for almost six years now, on this Halloween. SPOOOOKY how time flies!
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We've always been called FERO LUX. Literally translated it means "The Ripped Genes" in Arabic.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Well, we all do! I can't imagine being in a band where one person dictated to everyone else what they had to play. Fuck that noise. The subject matter of each song is different. The themes are typically socio-political and we'll never run out of things to be angry about. You shouldn't either.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We all have our own answer to this question, but since I'm taking the liberty of this interview, I'll say Silversun Pickups at the moment. Lyrically they are cryptic but straight forward at the same time. I kinda write in a similar fashion.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
NAWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We each eat two bowls of vegan chicken alfredo and do 381 jumping jacks. A nice little combination of cardio and carbo-loading. It's worked wonders for our live show night after night.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
There have been a lot of momentous occasions for us as a band over the past six years. For me, playing my local "big" venue with lots of great bands. Playing the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale is always one of my favorite things because that's where I started my live music adventures when I first moved to south Florida. I grew up watching all my favorite bands there. So it's a very fun feeling.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Smashing Pumpkins. Because they wrote motherfucking Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness. Why else?
Is there anything else you would like to add?
