For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Feign? How long has the band been around?
I personally was in a couple of garage band type groups with friends throughout high school, but nothing worth noting. Devin has never been in another project before until he’d joined ours. He’s also currently in another band called “Seventh Realm”. He plays drums for them.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
When I began the band I decided I did not want another plural noun like every other band that was starting at the time was doing. I suppose “Feign” just came to me one day after playing a computer game. I figured nobody had used it before, I liked the way it sounded/looked, and the way it’s intended to be defined when referring to the band is as a synonym to “Betrayal”.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I write about 90% of our music. Our first E.P. “False Hope” had lyrics more directed toward hardships of my life at the time on a day-to-day basis. Most of our new full-length “The New World Order” is politically-fueled, with a couple of songs being more personal again.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Aegaeon, Impending Doom, Frontlines, Demolisher, Silence, Oceano, Those Who Fear, Gideon, LGND, Sovereign Strength, and Recon.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
My first show attended which was I believe one of The Summer Slaughter tours that had come through town. Between seeing After the Burial, and Impending Doom, I couldn’t wait to begin.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We go through our set multiple times obviously, and maybe lift and/or drink a bit before getting on stage just to loosen us up a bit.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Beginning to be contacted by labels, beginning to be noticed by more well-known musicians within the metal community, and personally I think “Decay” reaching 121,000 views on YouTube is pretty big for us right now.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
N/A
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We would appreciate any and all available help finding permanent and professional musicians to fill in the rest of our lineup so that we may finally get some wheels and get to tour. Sharing the word in any way possible!
