Unsigned Spotlight: Eliza and the Organix

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Eliza Waldman… songwriter, singer, guitar
Kristen Tivey… sax, keys, backing vocals
Will Carbery… bass
John Gergely… drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Eliza and the Organix? How long has the band been around?

4 years

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

One and only name, the idea was to capture raw organic sound and it was also kind of a joke.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I- Eliza- am the primary songwriter. The songs are always kind of stream of consciousness and usually about things that are happening in life in one way or another.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Fiona Apple, St, All Things Blue (California band), Amanda Palmer, the Foo Fighters, WHY?

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I loved Eric Clapton and Tom Petty as a kid and I think I always wanted to be in a band. I started a short lived Beatles cover band in high school. And then a couple short-lived bands in college. And then this longer lived band.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Get my mind right! I used to worry about run throughs and the perfect solo and all that, but I think now I’m more concerned with being in the music.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Putting together longer tours- the longest we’ve done is 5 days, and it’s really fun to do those back to back shows and radio interviews and things.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Hmmm, tough question. Probably St. Vincent. Because their live shows are so sick and I’d love to learn from Annie’s style.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Our newest album is about the millennial quarter life crisis, and I think it’s pretty dope.
