Inspired by real life teenage dilemma (breakups, psycho ex-girlfriends, stereotypical tendencies), Doll Riot’s music will most definitely awaken your inner punk rock slay mode!
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Elena: lead vocals,
Ella: guitar
Lillee: drums
London: bass guitar
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (insert band/artist name here)? How long has the band been around?
Our drummer Lillee was in two bands called Wasted Years and Flailing Idiot, which lasted 2019-2022. For the rest of us, Doll Riot is our first band we’ve been in. The band formed in 2020 with a different drummer and bassist, then for personal reasons had to leave, which left us four together since 2021.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Our old bassist Mia came up with our name. Doll Riot was our only name we’ve had and kept ever since.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We write all of our own parts to the songs and work together as a group. A huge topic we choose is feminism, and I don’t think that will ever change until we see huge systemic and political changes.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Many bands, a few are Scowl, Deftones, The Runaways, Babes in Toyland, Hole. We all have a wide variety of music tastes that come together and create our sound.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Elena: My first ever concert was Vandals at Observatory North Park and I remember seeing the mosh pit and being absolutely amazed.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Lillee: I usually warm up on my drum pad playing various exercises, such as an 8 on a hand and stick control. We all make sure to rehearse and practice before our set to sound efficient.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Our biggest highlight is writing our own music and watching it form together. We also enjoy our music very much and enjoy our writing processes.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
There’s so many bands we would like to tour with, but we definitely would want to tour with Destroy Boys. They watched our set last year at the Nothing Festival and came up to us afterwards, telling us we are great and talking to us about possibly doing another show in the future.
We also cover two songs by them, Fences and I Threw Glass at My Friends Eye and Now I’m on Probation. It would be an absolute honor to be able to play with them.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Go stream our music!! We are grateful for each and every one of our listeners and love you all.
