For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Doc Hammer? How long has the band been around?
We’ve been together as “Doc Hammer” for about 7 years. Members play and have played with, Kodiak, Alive and Well, I Trust You To Kill Me, Barbarian.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The animated series Venture Brothers. We were called “6 to midnight” for like two shows.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
The devil writes our songs. With a lot of help from the band... mostly Clay, he has the best working relationship with the devil. Our songs are about partying, different kinds of partying, different intensities of partying, but fucking partying. The party is never a constant, the party is the ocean, it gives and it takes away. The songs will change, the words will change, the party will remain the same.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Every Time I Die, Turnstile, The Bronx, The Sword, AC/DC, Hour of The Wolf, and last time we played with Negative Blast I certainly felt inspired.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Rock n roll in general. We got the rock flowing through us. Impossible for us not to write and play. That’s all I want to do, ever, for the rest of time. I can’t remember a specific show or artist, but every band I ever went to go see live I thought. “I want to do that!!!”
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Weed and whiskey mostly, sometimes tequila
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
I would think the last time we got back from tour and got to play Bar Pink (local San Diego bar. RIPINK) right before the pandemic. The bar has since closed and that was a perfect goodbye. But playing to a packed house of rowdy mother fuckers in our hometown was so good. That entire show is up on YouTube, if you wanna check it out.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Every Time I Die, Thin Lizzy, The Dillinger Escape Plan, AC/DC with Bon Scott, Gallows, anybody who plays heavy rock n roll and gets wild.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Check out our new EP ‘Final Form’ and party hard!!
